Find a Vocabulary Partner

Have you ever thought about finding a vocabulary partner? There is a great group on MyEC where you can learn New Words Daily. What about teaching a friend a new word daily? Make sure that when you learn a new word you teach it to one other person. Teaching is one of the best ways to remember something. You can teach a person a new word by:

1) Describing or sharing where you found it in context.

2) Reusing it in a situation that is related to your own life.

3) Making a word or sound association with it. (For example, the other day I met a baby named Nour and I couldn't remember her name. I decided I would need to remember it by saying "newer". The baby is "newer" than the other kids.)

4) Writing it down in a vocabulary journal (I always recommend an old address book that has letters ABC etc, but some people prefer mobile devices these days.)

5) Reviewing your new words once a week. (Pick a time to do this, such as Sunday nights.) Why not write and record a dialogue together and post it on a MyEC blog?

Communicate with your Vocabulary Partner in any way you choose. For example:

  • Skype
  • Email
  • Direct message on MyEC
  • Text
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • MyEC walls
  • MyEC Group (make a private one for the two of you)
  • Chat
