This group is for all people who don´t feel comfortable with their spoken English and want to practise it by recording themselves. Lately here on MY EC I found out that almost all Audio Groups are "dead", so that´s why I am coming up with this idea. I realized that there are so many members of EC who don´t have problem to write, anyway they underestimate speaking skills and are scared of recording themselves. I would be glad, if at least few of them would overcome their fear by joining this group and recording themselves, so that my idea would be little bit useful ane helpful. I decided to create two sections :

One for the beginners who will read the texts and the second one for these who feel sort of advanced - they will talk about particular topic.

Every week I will come up with the tasks and will try to make this group as much interesting as it is possible!!!

Thank you all for joining this group, EC friends!!!

Important Information

1. First of all, welcome to this audio record group, dear EC member and do believe me you won´t regret your decission to join this group. Hope you will like my tasks and hope we all will have great fun in here.

2. EVERY MONTH I will come up with one topic and one text. Depends on you, if you want to talk by heart, read the text you prepared or if you do not feel so comfortable with your English and will prefer reading the text I will post.

3. Apart from introduction FIRST TASK, the time limit for each round will be TWO WEEKS, which means you will have TWO WEEKS to record yourself and to post it here. (Deadline is Friday before another one task will be posted). In my opinion this is the best way how to keep the group active because I think that nobody will go back to the forums, which were considered current many months ago.

4. How to record yourself?

Try to check out these online voice recorders :

Audioboo

Audiopal

SpeakPipe

Vocaroo

I would like to point out that if you choose a website where you can make an account, your records won´t be later deleted and you will be able to compare them, to find out if there is some progress. In the case that you record yourself anonymously, your record might be later deleted.

You can also record yourself on mobile phone, or you can use some programme installed on your computer, it is up to you, just don´t forget to check the format, so that it would be possible to upload it here.

5. When you are done with your record, choose DISCUSSION FORUM with the appropriate TASK and add your record there as a REPLY. For example - if you see the TASK 1 with the records, I am sure you will get it.

Wish you GOOD LUCK and LET´S KILL FEAR OF TALKING !!!

  • @Mr.Bob

Thank you so much for the transcript - I appreciate it so much. I just listened to the recording again and got it - I didn't catch every word of the recording when I first listened to it, even though you did speak slowly. I sure need to improve my listening skills.

I'm a doctor, but I'm not really good at medicine English. Here in China, we have our own medicine textbooks (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, etc)  - all in Chinese, but not the Chinese traditional medicine. We do learn medicine English at university, though.

    Thanks again!

  • At the suggestion of Expector Smith, here is the text of my recording. I think I got it exactly, but if you hear something different please let me know. Again this is upper level English with difficult words. I tried to keep it slower than normal conversation to make it a little easier to understand.

Does your doctor ever give you medicine? If so, you’re probably also given some information to read. It is important that you read the information and that you follow the instructions.

Most medicines come with a statement similar to this.

Before using this medicine be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist:

If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions ( itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you are taking any other medicinal products.

Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements, as well as other prescription medicines.

So, if you read this, you should pay attention and be certain to let the doctor know if you’ve had any type of allergic reaction. Some allergic reactions can actually kill you and it is very important not to mix medicines that are not compatible with each other. So, that is a reason for these warnings. So please do pay attention when you get medicines and when you begin taking them.

Medicines have adverse reactions (risks) as well as efficacies (benefits). It is important to minimize adverse reactions and maximize efficacy. To obtain a better therapeutic response, patients should understand their medication and cooperate with the treatment.

  • Ok Doc. Your point is well taken. I will try to write a complete transcript of my recording and post it.
Also, thank you Anele and Zivar for your kind comments. I think my voice was affected a little bit by bronchitis and the medication gave me the idea for this advanced topic.
  • hello all of you, make friend with me!

  • http://my.englishclub.com/video/20141003-204709-x264 here is the link to my recently uploaded video. my level is advanced and i'm fluent enough to speak my mind... just have a look at it, u will find it intersting

  • Perfect......Just as I was expecting from the start.  Thanks Bob.  I did enjoy listening to your voice just like Doc.

I wish Doc could do the same, too.  For the learners really looked up to you, sirs!  You serve as models for us.

  • @Mr.Bob

Thanks so much for the recording. I really enjoyed it. Your voice is so cool - typical American accent. Allergic reactions can be life-threatening, but, all too often, people don't pay much attention on the information or warning before they take their medicine/medication.

I was wondering if you could help write down all the words of the recording  - just make sure we really get it. Maximise the efficacy:))

  • OK Luci,

I made you a little recording. It is higher level (Intermediate and above) and it deals with some English language health and medical terminology. I read a caution statement that is typically included with medicines from the doctor or pharmacy.

I think upper level language learners will be able to understand most of this. I introduced some words that they may want to look up if they are unsure of the meanings. The words are: allergic, reactions, itch, rash, medicinal, interact, enhance, diminish, adverse, risks, efficacies, benefits, theraputic and efficacy. This is meant to be a little bit difficult and a learning experience.

    Have fun!

Suggestion for the group

I just joined this group and new to the platform. I find this groups goal to be helpful yet I think the platform doen'st really support it. I guess members are having a hard time recording from other platform then submitting it here again, If only this platform has already a recorder it might've been better. So for the admin of this group i suggest to create a skype group wherein we can all interact. Skype has already a recorder and also allows groupcall so i think it is good for the group's…
