My dear friends! Being a professional teacher of English grammar, I decided to start this group to help you improve your knowledge of the subject. Many members asked me to do it and I do feel like that! So, I am planning to start a few discussions where you will be able to ask me questions or to have some practice. I'd also like to involve my husband, a native speaker, who is supposed to be helpful. So, how do you feel about such a group?
Rewrite into a passive sentence: "You haven't given the gift to Pete"
Is it not "The gift hasn't been given to Pete by you" ? I was marked down for writing my answer as such instead of "The gift to Pete hasn't been given by you". How is it any different?

Thanks, Danny, I got it. To my ears now it seems, usually. Thank you! That is usually folks means people.
Dear Afro! "Folk people in general" means most of them, or "usually". It depends on the text
Yes and thanks a lot! But if a word meaning book says, folk- people in general what does it mean? does it mean....folks are general people or in general folk means people which one?
Dear Afro! Let me answer.
1. We don't usually say "general people", we say "regular people", meaning such people like you and me, who are not very famous or outstanding, just people who live their regular lives. FOLKS are regular people living in some area, otherwords, local population.
2. FELLOWS usually means men, at least here, while GUYS may mean both sexes.
3. A SOUK is a market in Islamic countries.
Have I answered your questions?
I will be happy, if someone answers my questions about Ms.Trump, well and linking verbs.
Thanks in advance,
Bijab
Thanks, Danny! I am going to see your reply but before leaving want to ask you a set of questions!
1. what is the meaning of ' general people ' and ' people in general? for example, if we say folk means people in general, actually what does it mean?
2. Want to know the meaning of fellow? does it mean ' man' then what is the meaning of ...hello fellows? or good fellows? only man?
3. what is gold souk, gold market? I mean does souk mean market?
Dear Afro! "When should we say....?" LIFE is singular while LIVES is plural. I have left the comment on your wall as to your question related to Florida
