Even though most of the docs , specially the surgeons are smoker too but that does not narrows down the hazards. Well, I have seen a lot variety of patients in the emergencies and in the indoors but no one is in a more state of misery then are the patients of COPD ( chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ) and it being the gift of heavy smoking . Hunger for air is what we describe, making all respiratory effort to breath some air, the worst thing is that these symptoms are for life long until the disease sucks every bit of the patient.
Let me tell u a joke 1st ..
A person went on condolence of his friend's death who had got shot by a bullet. There he saw everyone weeping and crying. Talking formally to the near by person "I am also in grief, asking just for curiosity, where did the bullet hit? ". "Right in between the eyes but he was very fortunate because both of his eyes are absolutely safe " was the remorseful reply.
Now coming back to my point, Yes exactly the smokes are fortunate enough not to get Ulcerative colitis and Parkinson's disease but unfortunately they can suffer from every malignancy of the body. Besides COPD, strokes, atherosclerosis, Myocardial infarction, Lung cancer and hypertension adds weigh to the disadvantages.
Smoke your money, pollute the environment, have fun for a while and live in misery for life long...... well wishes smokers.
Conclusion; One cigarette per day keep the doctor with pay.
I am totally on your side on this that smoking is an addiction, moreover no one one will ever know what exactly an addiction is, until he/she experiences it for once but for me, to choose between your addiction and a misery-life clearly seems to be a decision between the devil and the deep blue sea :)
Question No 1 : If given a chance, what will u choose? (1)Your addiction (2)A healthy life.
Question No 2 : Without a doubt, addiction can make you do crazy things but is addiction superior to everything?

The last sentence explains everything....Maybe those are docs that own all cigarette factories? :))))) I'm kidding only. But I'm surprised that you didn't mention lung cancer which terminates the life of thousands of smokers.I saw the lungs of smokers at the autopsy -they have large stains of tar on them looking like dirt...brrrr
every Malignancy is possible , lungs malignancy being the most common ...
