When we were in school we used to learnt that Turkey was part of the Asian continent. We could also find this information in every geography books. Turkish people think about them as Asian when talking about ethnicity. But there are some paradoxes ! Have you hear about the "eurovision songs contest" Remember, Turkey is part of it and even won that contest a few years ago. When i check some travelers's websites and want to know something about Turkey, guess where Turkey is categoried ? In the European category :))So, now i think more and more about Turkey as part of the european continent... not sure this would make all my turkish friends happy !!!When you look at a map, Bodrum is so close from some Greek islands, Edirne to Greece and Cyprus is part of the European continent !So what do you think about this ?Forget-me-not

  • hi every one  i'm not good in geography  this question is very difficult as far as i know in middile between Europe and Asia

  • To all those who answered to this post,

When i typed this message, i didn't mean to create a "politic or religious" debate. I was just wondering how people would feel in general about my question. As i wrote up here, Turkey takes part to the european songs contest, Turkey is also part of the european champions football league, and on many travelers forums Turkey is in the european country category.

I wish to add something that is important to me, though about 90% of the Turks are muslins, following to Attaturk's will, Turkey is a secular country.

Peace and love to all of you,

  • Thanks, Ruzan! And you are 100% right!

    Hi dear Forget-me-Not,
I know that Turkey is in southeast Europe and southwest Asia. The Dardanelles, the Sea of Marmara, and the Bosporus divide the country. Turkey in Europe comprises an area about equal to the state of Massachusetts. Turkey in Asia is about the size of Texas.Texas is the biggest State of the USA after Alaska.
I agree with Tanya,we can consider Turkey as a European and as a Asian country. But,people from big cities:Ankara,Istanbul....are more European.

Hi everyone here! I am not an expert in geography. I know that Turkey is situated partly in Europe and partly in Asia. Actually the boundary between Europe and Asia lies through Turkey. I've been there and I can say it is more European than Asian. So, it is a matter of taste to consider it as a European or Asian country. As to me Turkish were Europeans if they didn't confess to Muslim religion. On the other hand, they are not fanatics and they don't follow all those traditions. So, to sum it up, Turkey is at the boundary of Asia and Europe and culture is the same. There is nothing bad in that. I believe that many of you do know that many new ideas and initiatives appeared as a result of contradictions.
