So true. If we have no love we are not alive. We only exist.

  • Boy, this is a complex topic. From the view of an English teacher, I see the word love in English as having many uses. I love my wife, I love ice cream, I would love to go to your party, she's in love, I love my family, I just love being a teacher, there is no love between George Bush and Barach Obama, she fell out of love with her boyfriend, make love, love your neighbor as yourself, love makes the world go 'round, love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage, God's love, a mother's love. Or she is a lovely woman. He prepared a lovely meal for us. He has many lovers. It all depends on context.
But when we say first love, which is the specific topic of this group in general it has a couple meanings. One is the thing or person you value the most. His first love is his son. Her first love is her car. Usually it means the first person you ever loved. This love is usually a young love which is often an infatuation - a strongly emotional and hormonal love that a person experiences as a teenager. It is often idealistic, very vulnerable and to be honest, somewhat egocentric. It is immature and does not really emphasize the other as much as the self.
It is funny because this topic caught my eye right away. I have just had a fun experience on Facebook where my first love just contacted me after not seeing her for 48 years. Her name was Ann. It was such a surprise. I was 16 and I was “head over heels” (infatuated) with her in high school. She was my first romantic interest and my first romantic kiss. Eventually she “dumped” me for another guy. I was crushed. I got over her eventually and went on with life, many girl friends in a row and eventually found my wife who is now the love of my life. But Ann and I have had several conversations about life, its struggles, our families, our religious experiences, our tragedies. We have experienced an instant Facebook friendship based on so much more than first love infatuation.
But when it gets down to basics, I think the common element of love in its many forms is best explained to me by a man named Scott Peck who wrote books about psychology and spirituality. He said true love is caring enough about another person so much that you allow them to grow as an individual. There is a love that is simply physical and wants something from someone or something. There is a love that is like friendship. But true love is concerned about the other.
  • Dear Zahra! I am glad you feel so. What you (or any other poet) described is physical love. You must be young to feel that way and it is great! However, living through our lives doesn't make us younger. On the other hand, it makes us wiser and more thoughtful. It makes us change our perception of reality. There is some breakpoint in our lives where we start estimate, think and feel differently. Unfortunately, physical love is momentary. It comes and leaves spontaneously. But that unforgettable feeling stays with us forever and we want to live through it time and again.

So, my question was: "Why do we want to feel love time and again and what causes that great feeling?"

Please, try to be frank, guys!

love is the sweetest taste of life presented by the source of love to us...
it is a cure for bitter moments...
it lets us become mindless ...
it makes the heart beat faster ...
it lets the vessels be filled with hot blood...
it is what we water our dried souls with ...
it is a feeling in everyone ...the purest one who carries this is an infant ....love flows in every kid's eyes ...
