It's an idiom Ensie. By the way, it's not necessary to use a pronoun between the phrasal verb's part. For example "look after" is a phrasal verb. Can we say "I love my son, I look him after"? I don't think so. What do you think dear?
I think it's "stumble across it" I've searched for it and I found "stumble across somebody/something".
I don't think there is a need for saying "by accident" because "stumble across" means that :)
