(2) Video lesson: Thoughts from Brazil

P.S.

1. Class will be in classroom 203 Erya.

2. Picture 3 is about a famous city in Brazil. Which city? Which statue is making that city famous? The world's greatest sports event takes place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. What is it called? Why are we watching this video? What will we learn?

3. Video to be viewed here (and annexures): http://www.englishclub.com/esl-videos/thoughts-from-brazil/nosubs.htm

    • CC, why do you wait till the early morning before you make your comment?! Why do you say the news topic is 'special'? What makes it special? Just because Obama has endorsed it? I think it is still disgusting as the gay agenda is lately being forced onto the world. I also am of the opinion that is wasn't a good topic for the news.

Wow CC, you are so lucky to watch a football game in class! I hope the commentary was in English as it was an English class?! Well, I don't watch football regularly. Maybe it is partly because the best football in the world is played in Europe and they mostly show that in the middle of the night on Chinese TV. But when it is World Cup time, I like to watch every game that they broadcast if I am free to watch it. I did that in 2010 when the World Cup took place in my home country and I think I watched about every game as Chinese TV broadcasted each game! I was then with Liao Gongda at the main campus in Fuxin and I can still remember that on some mornings I would watch the last game of the day till the end around 4.30am Chinese time (South Africa is 6 hours behind Chinese time), go to bed, and at 8am I will be in class for the first class! That month was very hard on me! But luckily I didn't have many early morning classes! This year my classes stop in week 16 (last class on 6 June) and the World Cup starts on 13 June; so, I don't have to worry about going to class after watching the games!

But what about you, CC? Do you watch football? Normally girls don't watch much of that game; but times are changing! And are you planning to watch some of this year's World Cup games? You first have to finish your exams!

    • Pauline, your comment doesn't convince me that you have opened and read the attachment about the lesson. What you said is exactly what other students said too. So, why comment then?

    • Ann, are you sure about the dates of the World Cup? Where did you get it from (I hope you didn't copy from my post)? And how do you know that I chose this video from the seven videos in the series? It's my guess that you read my comment to Hou Yan, right? Don't reply; I know it is right! Now I am even wondering whether you have written anything above that was your own work, Ann? I have the feeling you got all your information from the other comments. Am I right?

    • Jackie, the longest river in the world is not called the "Amaron" river! And neither is he world's biggest rain forest called the "Amaron" rainforest! And, you are not supposed to READ the news, but to LISTEN to it!

So, if you love football, I guess you will also watch as many games during the World Cup as possible, right?! Which country do you favour for winning the championship?

    • Zhou Yuqi, Brazil is NOT the largest city in South America! And another thing, you didn't look at the attachment. Do you want to tell me that you still can't open it? Did Meng Guimiao not tell your class how to do it? Are you prepared for tomorrow's class?

    • Tian Jing, thank you for watching the video (though it was optional to watch). I can see you know what the lesson is about and hopefully the lesson tomorrow would be easier for you to follow. However, what do you mean by "the city is Sao Paulo"? Do you mean that is the city in the picture? Are you sure?!

    • Zhou Ying, can you still not open the attachment? Did Meng Guimiao not tell the class what to do to open it? Your comment really isn't telling me much. So, that means you are not prepared for tomorrow's class.

    • Thank you, Ada, for a good comment (though it appears that you haven't opened the attachment!). You are making a habit of giving good comments nowadays! Why can't most of your classmates not follow the good example from you and your classmate, Kelly?!

    • Kelly, thank you for an outstanding comment; I am so impressed with you. I fully agree with your views on homosexuality. It has never been right, and it would always be wrong until kingdom come. Nothing can change the legitimacy thereof; not even Obama. I agree that you stop watching that show. There must be other similar ones you can watch too. America has few morals left (if any) and they want others to become as morally corrupt as they are. We must be alert and not accept everything that comes from there.

And don't feel bad at all if you disagree with the gay agenda. We must stand by what we believe in. I like what you said about that homosexualism is distorting the ethics of human behavior. We were made male and female from the beginning and only women were made to bear children. Therefore it was never intended for males to be couples or marry. Likewise, it was never intended for females to act similarly with each other. However, the gay agenda is gaining ground in China lately and with more gay clubs opening in Beijing, it appears that homosexualism has come to stay in China ... I admire pres Putin of Russia (though I don't like him); he had the backbone to stand up against the gays and has banned it from Russia. That may be the only way to stop it.

About the World Cup, I will surely try to watch every game! I am not much into soccer (football) and do not watch many games, but when it is World Cup, I am also excited (as your father) and I can't wait to start watching. Brazil has a strong chance to win the championship this year, but then they have to beat the current champion, Spain; and that's not going to be easy! The team I'll support, is the Dutch (the Netherlands)!

Kelly, finally, it is students like you that make teaching such a pleasure for teachers like me! Thank you. ;-)

    • Wang Jiajia, watching the video is optional, but thank you for doing that anyway. You clearly know what the lesson is going to be about and I am sure the lesson tomorrow wouldn't be as difficult to you as to the students who didn't prepare as you did. Thank you for your good attitude. Now I can go and sleep peacefully tonight as there was one student who did what I expected from the class. Maybe there are more students like you ... I hope!
