The Power of Small

It all started with a simple haircut. He felt well about himself. Then, he went and bought some new clothes. Once again, he felt very well about himself. Then, He came up with some new ideas; how he could change his career; how he could improve his company and so on. Now, he is a successful person and whenever someone asks him what the key for your success is. He answers with a smile: “A simple haircut.”“The Power of Small” is the name of a book which describes how our small actions can affect people’s lives. In this book, Linda Kaplan and Robin Koval say different stories of people whom small tasks have changed their life forever. They say: “Bigger isn’t always better, especially when dealing with today’s challenges. In fact, it’s often the baby steps that put us on the path to delivering a true competitive advantage. The real secret to getting ahead in life and in our careers is to refocus our attention on the small details that, if disregarded, can sabotage a multimillion-dollar ad campaign or undermine your most important relationships.”So, they encourage people to take baby steps. Dividing big tasks into small tasks can be done better. According to them, small talks matter very much, so, allocating some times and talking with people or sending some cards for friends or saying hi to people are effective. I was surprised because I did not know him and I asked my friend: Why did he say hi? Did he know me? My friends told me that people do this because they want to give good feelings to others. That day, I was so happy and I still remember that kindness. Since then, I tried to do so. I feel very well when I see people are happy and consequently, their happiness makes me more blissful.

  • Dear Nafis, our lives are made up from the small things and we can't do without them. "A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy"? Small things can make our life happy but, sometimes quite the reverse, they can spoil our day and even our life.
