My Pronunciation Sample

Are you wondering how to improve your pronunciation? Do you want a teacher or advanced learner to listen to your voice and offer some suggestions for weak areas? Do you want your peers to let you know which words are difficult to understand?

Why not record a pronunciation sample? If we all use the same piece of text for our sample, we can compare our voices.

Your Task

1. Read Josef Essberger's article: Word Stress and Sentence Stress-The Golden Key to Pronunciation

2. Open an online recorder like Audioboo or Vocaroo or Cinch

3. Record the text (or just the first paragraph). Embed it in a comment below.

4. Request corrective feedback from a teacher on MyEC. (You can send a DM to Tara to say that you've submitted a sample.)

5. Leave feedback for other members who take this challenge.

Note: This discussion was inspired by our hardworking member Selma. She wants to improve her pronunciation. Congratulations on focusing on a very important skill, Selma!

    • Thanks a million times dear Tara for the correction.
  • Hello Ms. T, hello everybody...

Please kindly help me improve my pronunciation. I will gladly appreciate any feedback you can offer to me..

    Thank you in advance..:)

    • Great recording, Aisha. Your word stress was really great. As Nafis mentioned, the word English needs more of a "sh" sound at the end. Here are three words you can work on (listen to the recorded version):
      pronunciation
      English
      native
      Thanks for recording your sample!
    • Hi Mayumi!

You are always working very hard in this group. This sample that you recorded is excellent. Here are a few notes (because I'm being picky for you).

In some languages, (stress on "some" not "lang")

PHOtograph (You said it right the first time, but I think you mixed up the stress the second time)

REcognize (This is a tough word for a lot of learners. The first syllable should be stressed.)

      Great job!

      T

    • Ms. T, Thank you so much!

I am loving that you are being picky to me..:) I like it Ms. T.. I'm learning a lot.

    • Very well-done! However, the proninciation of the words anxious and English wasn't true. They both need "SH" sound. Have a terrific day!
    • Great Job dear Mayumi. I really like your recitation. It's clear and has proper pace.
    • Excellent!
    • Dear Tara

Here I am with the recording of WORD STRESS & SENTENCE STRESS... to  participate in the discussion.

Let's hope I've managed it well.

      Best wishes & regards
