  • Thanks for posting this very interesting list of "commonly mispronounced" words, i had a great time reading it and i learned a lot. It surprised me so see on that list easy words as, "aks -for ask"  or "calvary for cavalry" - "caucaphony for cacaphony" - "arnyx for larynx", - "libel for  liable" - "probly, prolly for probably"

ON the other hand, those as, "old-timer's disease" for "Alzheimer  disease" , a "blessing in the skies for "a blessing in disguise" - "bob wire for barbed wire" - "doggy dog world" for "dog-eat-dog world" - "Laura Norde" for  law and order" -"nucular" for "nuclear" "made me laugh, that's so funny !

I also learned that "excetera" must be pronounced  "et cetera" , "Antartic - Antactic" ,  "expresso -  espresso",  "parlament  - parliament"

      Hi Tara,

You are marvellous. I would make almost the same request but mine would be slightly different.

I remember you advised us to learn common words, if I am right.

I wonder if there is a list "backbone or spine of words", I mean "key words" that should be learnt in daily conversation, because I am really getting lost, if I make a frame, I feel more confidence,

I am looking forward to hearing from you,

Thank you very much in advance,

      -Selma-

  • Hello Tara and friends,

Here are 3 other words I think i could add to my english vocabulary. I don't think they are very difficult to pronounce. Are they also rarely used ?

    Cumulative

    Demure

    Elated

    • These words are more commonly used in my opinion. The word cumulative is commonly used by teachers and students. Check where the stress is:
  • My three words for today will be :

     Acquiesce,

     Haughty

     Disdainfully.

Here is the link to those famous 100 words.

    • You said those three words properly. :)  Let's try some other ones from the list.

Keep in mind that those words are rarely used. Personally, I doubt I've ever written or said any of them. It is fun to learn new words, but I always recommend saying something in the simplest way possible.
