[Note: With almost 10,000 comments here we have decided to start a NEW thread for 2012. Please join us at Be a Newscaster 2012!]
Every Tuesday English Club publishes a weekly news report. There is a self study exercise to go with the story.
You can practise your speaking by recording your voice as you read the transcript. Upload your report in the comments below by using a program like Audioboo, or by recording it on your computer and using the paperclip above to upload the MP3 file. You can share your recording each week.
You can also record yourself answering the discussion question. Have fun!

Hi Nsottin,
I like the way you answer the discussion question..:)
I hope I learn too how to say my opinion clearly in just short words like what you did.
You used...therefore, although, etc in stating your opinion. I think these are my missing link.
Thanks for sharing!

Transitional Words and Phrases
Thanks dear Tara,
I liked "Transitional words link" as well as the others. Anyhow every issue presented by you is more impressive to us more than a book. We are following your directions.
God Bless You,
-Selma-
Thanks Ms. T. It sure helps me a lot..:)
Hi mayumi, thank you for listening to my recordings. I have a couple of secrets to tell you now :D. I try and answer to the comprehension questions speaking "out of the cuffs" but as far as the discussion question is concerned, well what you hear there is me actually reading my answer. Beyond that I found very useful using an audio file editor and record audio tracks separately (the news recording, the comprehension questions, ...) then I manage to put them all together in a single audio file just before posting the link ;-) Bye bye.
Hi everyone,
Happy news recording..:)
Hi Aisha,
Your pronunciation is excellent! Since you are advanced, I'll offer a little advice to bring you to the next level! :) One thing you can work on is where to make your voice go up and down. There were a few places in your reading where your voice went up instead of going down. Intonation comes with lots of practise (mainly listening). I recommend that you copy the text and mark each place where the voice goes up and down. Then try to do the same with your voice when you read it.
Congrats on your excellent report!
Cheers,
Tara
You sound excellent today, Mayumi. Your pace is perfect for a news report!
Hi group members! Please copy this image and share it with your friends!
Dear Tara!
It is a great honour to have my avatar on this “special invitation” that you’ve created for the benefit of those who may be keen in improving their spoken skill but don’t know what to do. Thank you!
You can put your trust in me; I will send it to as many people as I could, for Be a Newscaster Group is quite entertaining and educational at the same time.
Regards,
~ GS ~
