There are many kinds of harassment and it is too common at work in some places. We can define it as picking on or teasing someone, or otherwise saying things to make them feel badly. There is also sexual harassment where a person in a position of power misbehaves toward someone with less or no power. This can especially be bad if the boss acts in this way either demanding sex or making employees put up with very indecent language or behavior. Most companies now have rules against this. In my country we now have a law to protect employees form this and if it is proven that sexual harassment has happened the company will have to pay a lot of money. It is pretty clear that harassment is unethical.Do you know that it is not just a boss or other employees that may be affected by harassment or claims of harassment. There are other relationships where the more powerful (or possibly more mature) person in the relationship could take advantage of the person lower in the relationship. That is why there are rules of ethics for many professions prohibiting a relationship with others they know in a professional capacity. Examples are:Doctor and patientTeacher and studentMilitary officer and lower rank peopleCan you think of others that either have such rules or maybe should have such rules?

In adult life we now have some laws in place. Usually if it involves a man and a woman the woman will be the loser. She can win if she has very good evidence but there is a trend to overlook the woman's charges unless she has iron clad proof of harassment. It should not work that way but it does seem to in many cases. For one thing, men may lie for another man to protect him. That is obviously unethical but we still have many people to train about ethics.
Hi Bob,
In the streets of my town, I see a lot of young ladies walking with their little kids, and I often hear the mommies insult their children --without any shame and a shadow of a doubt using bad words ! Where is their maternal love? Having a bottle of beeer in one hand, and a cigarette in the other, these "mothers" teach their little ones good manners!
I try to follow this wise rule:""Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven", but, when I notice such scenes, when kids are harassed, I can't remain calm. In some years, these children are sure to repeat their mothers' ruthless and scandalous behaviour -- at school, college and at work.
I want to add some words about harassment in my country. 25 years of building the capitalist economy resulted in "a stupid" kind of it being created. And this has brought us all the bad features of capitalism increasing manyfold. Now we have unbridled harassment everywhere --at schools, works, army and so on... Our people have started to go to churches, but they themselves become worse.

We do see children harass other children. Sometimes the only solution may be to fight or show that you are not afrid to fight. The bully who picks on the smaller children is usually a coward and will back down. Children know that telling a teacher or parent will have the opposite effect and make the bad kid more agressive.
Harassment is a very inhuman move. This is commonly done to immobilize an operation (with a good cause) or an individual that serves as a threat to another. Harassment is everywhere not only in workplace or school, even in relationships, I think.
I think there's no solution to this anymore. An individual just has to be prepared to brave it all.
This is a very good topic Bob. I wonder if everyone experience being harass.
Thank you Karenina. Your more complete list is similar to my company. Every worker should have a safe workplace invluding freedom from harassment. I hope we can see rules from some other company for comparison. : - )
hi,Bob.
My harassment is that I cann't predict where is the end of my life.
My favorite is that I am still alive and enjoying myself here.
No kidding.
My harassment is why some individuals are so selfish. They drive car rudely.Their dog relieve nature everywhere. They jump the queue shamelessly.
When I saw these,I was annoyed and feel powerless.
