Benjamin Franklin says that;

Tell me and I forget.

Teach me and I remember.

Involve me and I learn.”

This quotation explains why participation of students is important in learning. Participation can be defined as students’ responses to activities, their concentration, and any contributions to the lesson. Willing to answer the questions, paying attention or even nodding can be seen as participation.

Students’ participation is very necessary since it accelerates the process of learning. In terms of English learning, participation is a must to practice the language though it is one of the greatest challenges for ELT teachers.

so;

  • What should teachers do to catch students’ attention?
  •      What kinds of factors are preventing student participation?
  • How can we encourage students to participate the lesson ?
