    • @Nadira Have you had experience teaching anyone who has signs of dyslexia?

    • I did have a brief experience where the student could not pronounciate and I did not realize then that the problem was due to her tongue .

  • Hi Dear Tara,

Students with learning disabilities receive special care of specialists and supervisors caregivers here, they Help them to work around their disabilities as they work towards their goals ,how to handle setbacks and failures....Well,here in Algeria The French language is a second language education in Algeria and French taught to students of all Algerian institutions. So,till now there is no opportunity to learn English.

    • Thanks for sharing information about Algeria. It's great to hear that there are special services to help people with learning disabilities in your country.

  • Hi dear Tara.

I have some friends who have some kind of disabilities; two of them are blind and one is paralyzed (she travels on a wheelchair, besides, not only isn't she able to walk, but also she has difficulty to use her hands; for example we should put a pen in her hand in a special position so that she can write).

I know that all of my mentioned friends are university students. One of the blind friends studies English at university and she really loves it. I am not in touch with her recently. I just know that she studies in the same university as other healthy people do. She has a cell phone that a special software reads messages and so on to her. She is so smart and speaks English nicely.

I know a center in our university which is created to help especially the blind students to ease their studying. Its name is "Fanoos" which means lantern. It is governed by other students who as volunteers help blind students. I once participated in an activity of such. For example we go with them on their exam time and we write/read instead of them. I think there must be activities such has providing notes for them, too.

As for the paralyzed friend of mine, students and friends always are around her to help. Professors are not exceptions, I guess. She studies electrical engineering. Just in some laboratories where she can not physically participate, she is evaluated differently.

Thanks for the discussion. I hope that my reply is relevant.

    Have a nice time

    :)

PS- I am Iranian. The center I mentioned for blind students is at Shiraz University.

    • Fanoos sounds really interesting! Thank you for translating the meaning of the name. It's a beautiful name for a learning center.  I am going to look into it a little more, as I'm doing a little research on this subject. Thanks for the tip!

  • Do you know if students with learning difficulties are given the opportunity to learn English in your country?
