Your at the correct place Rita. Try to get friends who are fluent or advanced speakers over here, at EC. Exchange your Skype to interact and speak to each other
Hi Nadira, It's very important to talk about our speech in English. I was so lucky when I was talking to Foreign friends by skype or by other voice calls medium. I was talking freely with no borders. When I was recognizing some mistakes in grammar or in pronunciation, I was correcting them directly. But know It's difficult to me to do that. Talking with native people is so essential to improve our second language. In my opinion, to be better at them is to practice more and talking with native people freely.
Hi Nadira, I came from the same community as 'noaslpls', I guess I was also guilty-as-charged. I was surrounded by a majority of my colleagues who didn't really speak English and worse they tried to avoid me as much as possible because I liked to speak English.
But now, English has become my first language for the past 1.5 years. I have to speak English 24/7 and consequently be able to improve my English from time to time. It's also funny how it goes, I notice if people here don't understand what I say, guess I speak wrongly, so I will have to re-phrase my speech.
I am lucky that English is my Company's official language. We speak in English in meetings and most of our daily official conversations such as phone conversations. However, due to the fact that we are not native English speakers, we tend to mix our conversations with some local words.
I have problems in my grammar. I tend to "butcher" my grammar whether while speaking or writing.
It is best to read as much as possible such as good books and newspapers . It would be ideal too, to refer a good grammatical book at ones leisure . This keeps us informed and focused
