Generally speaking, everything is fair in love and war and love is blind. it is because, when someone loves someone, (s)he doesn't see anything around except his/her beloved. When the beloved is disrespected, the lover desperately attacks the enemy of his/her beloved regardless of its consequences.
So far as blasphemy of Prophet (peace be upon him) is concerned, I am of opinion that blasphemer who, due to nonsense and fanaticism, divides nations and destroys the universal peace. the blasphemer is just like a mad dog, who becomes dangerous to the pedestrians. How do you cope with a mad dog?.
Likewise, disrespect or mockery of even the poor or an ordinary man considers immoral in a civilized society. What else can I say ?
By the way, my elders forbade me to take part in any discussion relating to beloved Prophet ( peace be upon him). It is becuase a perosn who really loves him will not give a chance to other person to speak against my beloved Prophet ( peace be upon him). But arrogants have no such sense they began debating on such a sensitive topic just to impress others. I have seen many people fighting on a religious topics, while they are practically far away from the teaching of beloved Prophet (peace be upon him). What makes Allah and His Prophet ( peace be upon him) happier is to follow His beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) sincerely.
The man who drew a caricature of Prophet Mohammad showed his weakness and helplessness against the Islamic Prophet, in fact he insulted himself.
The story of Malik al - Ashtar one of companions of Imam Ali, is a good example to show that Muslims must be gentle and patience : One day a salesman threw some rotten vegetables to Malik al - Ashtar and began to laugh at him, but Malik said nothing and went to a mosque praying for the man to be forgiven and reformed by God.
