I think this is an effective way to learn new vocabularies. When commencing to study English, I often looked around and memorized name of things in my body, house, school, family, etc. At present, I still keep this method in learning vocabularies by the way of listing out new words/phrases under the mindmap form. My daughter and nieces have been following this method.
