After a recent visit from some relatives who brought us a nice box of chocolates, I have been pondering this question: Is "good" chocolate wasted on children? They said so, but I had to question it. In fact, I felt a bit childish not sharing "the good chocolate" with the kids.

Do children bother to savour the good chocolate? (In comparison to a simple candy bar or chocolate from a Halloween bag?)

Is it necessary to savour the good chocolate?

Is it necessary to appreciate more expensive chocolate?

Are we just being selfish as adults (not offering the kids the good chocolate)?

  • Chocolate and children; those two don't mix. Give 'em a celery stalk for all I care.

  • Hi

I like chocolate soooooo much . sometimes i share some of them with my kids and sometimes i am so selfish  keep them to myself . chocolate according to me is like an imaginary dream . it can change my mood. but i think children can appreciate the high quality of chocolate because it tastes so delicious.

have a happy day and enjoy eating chocolate

  • Yum! There is a chocolate shop in our town that makes their own, quite different, exotic chocolates. The very best kind actually has sea salt on the top, and it is a GREAT combination! Other flavors include lavender, green tea, citrus, and many others. A couple of times a year I buy a few (very expensive!) and savor every moment. I have shared them with other adults who like chocolate, but am not often around children so haven't shared with them.

  • The chocolat is very good. but think it is not very good for health.
  • I don`t find children in my place bother to savor good and expensive chocolates. For as long as it is chocolate they love to eat it. I was like these children when I was a kid. Any chocolate candy bars or chocolate flavors taste good for me whether they are expensive or not. But when I become an adult I realized that mostly of the expensive chocolates really taste good. Whenever I bought expensive chocolate I feel like I don`t want to share it but I still do share it especially to my nephew. Seeing how happy he was when I gave him a chocolate felt like I tasted the most sweet and delicious chocolate.

  • Shhhhh, don't tell my aunt. I pulled out the expensive box of chocolates after dinner last night and gave my children a little lesson in appreciating the good chocolate. This is how our conversation went (minus my son who devoured his piece).

Daughter: What's for dessert? I ate all my dinner.

Mama [hmm-I've got nothing]: I have something very special tonight.

    Daughter: Yay! What is it?

Mama [bringing out the "good" chocolate]: It's Purdy's Chocolate. You can look through the little booklet to see which one you'd like to try.

Daughter [after reading the booklet that came with the chocolates]: I want the "peanut butter daisy"!

Mama: Great choice. This chocolate is a little different than the chocolate you're used to. You have to savour it. I'm going to pick the "mint leaf" chocolate.

Daughter: Yum! Can I have another one?

Mama: Nope. We can only enjoy this chocolate one piece at a time. It's expensive. That's why it tastes so good.

Daughter: Okay, Mama. Thanks for letting me have a piece.

Mama: It was fun having a delicious chocolate with you today.

  • "Sweet" topic.

Your topic reminded me of today, when I was offered some good and expensive chocolates. Well, it was really tasty. But I don't care if a chocolate is expensive or not.

    Anyway,

I know one of our relatives who isn't that strict in preventing her kids from eating chocolates and ice-creams. Whenever they are at our place, as they know we most of the times have ice-cream in the refrigerator, they always ask for it and their mom never prevents them. Or if they see chocolates on the table, they take it. To tell, the truth, I hate such treatments. You know, there are times when the mentioned relative has problem with her kids' coughing and sore throat. And I wonder why she doesn't consider and set some restrictions and rules for her kids to keep the balance in her kids' taking of sweets.

I believe that we should always keep the balance in everything. And I see no bad thing in offering the kids the good chocolate from time to time. I think it's good to let kids taste all "good" things; good experiences. But too much of spoiling kids ,by offering them good chocolates often, isn't good at all. It causes them to expect too much from us.

    Thanks for the topic,

And sorry if I talk too much !

    Sweet time

    :)

  • Wasting is never good. So I would say: Yes, it's not good to waste good chocolate to children. But I would also add that - you should share it with them in a manner, where nothing would get wasted.

It seems to be a common behavior for many women, on these days. They want all good chocolate only to them selves. :P I'm glad that my mom have never been so selfish.. at least not to her own kids. :P

Well as for me, I like bitter chocolate only. Don't remember what I liked as kid. I think there wasn't bitter chocolate available that time.. Heheheh actually, even, if I would like sweet chocolate I would not be able to eat it too much now, because of diabetes. :P But as far as I remember. I never liked too sweet stuff.. Even before I got diabetes. :)

Maybe too much of chocolate isn't good. I've heard it could kill a parrot.. so u could use that as a excuse, not give it to kids who remind you a parrot.. The ones who have the habit to repeat every of your word, that you say, like a parrots do. :P

  • a  nic e question to ponder  Tara

Basically  we  are  kids  in heart , naturally we  would  like to be a  bit wicked  eating  it all by our selves  : consoling  thought   it  would  not be appreciated by the kids :)))

  • Dear Tara,

I have a memory about this matter from my mom. My mom was very peaky about the food my brother and I ate. For example, we never ate canned fruit juice, ice cream, chocolate, cookies, puffs, etc, when we were kids. Only under one condition she gave us junk foods. If we had eaten our meal completely, she would have given us a piece of chocolate or cookie. Therefore, I was hungry to eat junk foods!

One day, after ages, she bought an ice cream for me. But, just my luck, the ice cream fell down at the street and became dirty. I knew if I told my mom that my ice cream was dirty, she would have taken it and I wouldn't have had any ice cream any more. So, I ate it with all its dirt...(hehehehe) and you can guess what happened the next day..I got so sick and my mom said: "Didn't I tell you these junk foods are not good for you and make you sick?!"

So, I think it's good to give some chocolate to kids some times.
