For me, it is difficult to maintain a balance of emotions when I try to help my friends and beloved to escape from their sadness or depression. Even I spent a wakeful night thinking of a way of dealing with their stories a couple times. Obviously, I was affected quite a lot by those preoccupations.
How about you? let's share your opinions about this and what is the best way to deal with this problem?

Only being with them and listening in total silence is a doubtful ways of dealing with this problem. Telling them some of words or pulling their mind to other things is my way often to do. We really get obsessed by their stories if they keep getting depressed. Anyway, I think they temporarily affect our emotions not last a long time.
For sure, you can do nothing to help them release from sadness and disappointment besides being a friend to listen, understand and share with them during such rough period. In this circumstance, just try to listen and do not judge anything about what they did. Every wound will be healed as time goes by and your friend/beloved must teach themselves the way to overcome sadness and losses. They need this experience to be mature..
