• How often and how much do you read in English?
• How do you choose texts/books for reading?
• Share what you gain from reading? Probably you have some really efficient methods to make it rewarding.
• If you feel have some problems with reading, again, share them and perhaps we can solve it together.
Any experience/advice will be appreciated.
A couple of words about how I read. I try to read in English daily. Mostly I read blogs.
I check out blogs of my MyEC friends almost everyday (via RSS, so it's not that difficult). Also I visit the main blog page on MyEC from time to time and read blogs when the beginning made me attracted. Besides, I read some blogs written by native speakers (I do it sporadically) and these days I am reading The Polyglot Project, which was written by people with different backgrounds (some of them also were natives of English).
The main thing in all this is following.
How do you pick up correct patterns of the language (phrases, idioms, styles of speech)?

Hello!! I read books or texts everyday and also try to watch videos to improve my pronunciation. I read and watch things that are interesting and I try to learn new things related to my work. In my opinion, each person has a particular way of learning, so this works for me.
Bye!!
I often read in English daily and try to learn a new word or a phase everyday.
There are some apps in Phone for reading like wattpad... so I can read when I have free time or when I wait for someone. It is very easy to read just a page in English... when I wait for someone to avoid the boring feeling of waiting . Sometime I read the news in English and I also read about This Week History in English club.
The problem is I read but I can not remember all things, and I forgot it easily. :(
Hi Oksana, I've just been looking at the links on your page, and they are really great! They will be of help to me with my local ESL students. If you are interested I have collected some video and podcast links also, those which have either captions or transcripts. Some you may already have, some not. If you would like a copy, send me an email address outside of English Club so I can send you a .pdf file. My email is bl.stout@hotmail.com Here are a few other videos about books and/or technology you might enjoy if you have not already seen them. Hi,
It is a good discussion.
I read english on bus, on bed, on TV, in coffee shop and etc. And mostly, I read english referring to stone business like architecture, housing decoration and latest stone products updating, from which i gain much more professional knowledge and how to decorate house, hotel, mall and so on. In all, reading english enlarges my scope of knowledge.
Hello Diyah, nice to meet you too. :)
Mostly I read online. It's easier indeed (at least for me). I use a special plugin (see the previous reply). Also sometimes the keyboard combination "CTRL+" works good for me. It simply makes the letters on a webpage bigger. "CTRL 0" returns it to default.
Sometimes I don't feel a lot of energy. Then I read just small pieces, preferably blogs, or do the same as you do, watch or listen. Doing something is better than doing nothing. :)
By the way, your friends are right. ;)
Hi, dear Oksana! Nice blog! I used to read almost every day. But these days I read very seldom, espesially books. My spare time I usually spend by reading online stories and blogs.
My choosing text for reading depends of how it's comlicated to read. I started with children books and now can read books which are for intermediate readers.
Hi, dear Alexandra!
Previously, I also read more then now. Unfortunately it became less free time. But I'm still trying to deal with English every day. I try to follow the principle: less work everyday is better than a lot of work once a month.
I try to read content which is interesting for me (then the words are remembered better). Mostly I read online using a helpful plugin (gTranslate plugin - https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/gtranslate/)
This plugin makes a contextual translation of the selected phrase (the right click on your mouse) or a small pop-up frame for the word under your cursor. Worth trying! :)
Do you have any useful tips how to make reading online easier?
I would be glad to know about that :)
Hi puakeng,
I noticed that learners who choose material appropriate to their level and fully immerse into it, are progressing very successfully. Thank you for your comment, it prompted me to check whether I am applying it.
Hi Oksana
To be honest with you I don’t read much because I don’t have enough time but when I have I read an interesting story.i think we should choose reading what we like to read in our own language for example I don’t like to read news in my own language so I cant start reading it in English language. First I try to get the main idea and ignore some difficult words that are not essential to understanding the meaning or try to guess them through the context.
I always remember this rule
If you want to improve your writing skills, you have to read more and more
If you want to improve your speaking skills, you have to listen
