gradable and non-gradable adjectives

I would like to ask about the rule that distinguishes between gradable and non/gradable adjectives, I mean, we can use comparative and superlative forms with them. But it's difficult to understand for me> If I say> more impressive or the most well/known, this is OK according the rule. But Cannot I say the most furious man or the most freezing place on the Earth?
I can't see the difference that helps us to classify them and what adverb would be rightly used. I understand that dead, chemical, wild, are non-gradable, but I cannot understand the criteria with extreme adjectives. HELP!!

  But it is very difficult for a Spanish speaker to see the difference that you see naturally.I suppose that I would have to get used to use the adjectives in this way. There is not a rule, isn´t there?
