    Hey Ranu,

    Basically, there should be a certain and standart knowledge that we have so when we need how to, we can figure out from.

    I agree with you but also we use our "feeling" and also "imitation" to my mind, because you should imagine in one way or another,

    I wish, I would be in the nature english atmosphere.

    Thank you for your participation.

  • I agree with Nafis..we don't need to imitate native English speaker accents.

    Besides that, people try to listen and imitate native English speakers, but they forget that not all native English speakers pronounce an English word in the same way or even in the a right way. It would be different depend on their accents.

    Just compare it with our native languages. Do our fellow friends from the same country pronounce a word on the same way? I doubt that...it will be different depend on our accents, won't it?

    So, in my opinion, just listening to native English speakers and trying to imitate them aren't enough.

    I guess it is better to learn to pronounce English words by looking them on English dictionaries with international phonemic chart. Because the dictionaries contain standard and correct ways to pronounce each word.

    And that's why we need to learn how to read phonemic chart. So, we will be able to pronounce words properly. So, every time we have a doubt about pronounce a word, we can take a look at dictionary. And then, we know the standard way to pronounce it.

    Hi Ruth ,

    Thanks a lot for taking time to answer my question, I do as much as your suggestions, I wonder if I missed something ? I've been already listening a lot actively and passively but Chart is theoric way to learn properly.

    Your help is more than welcome. What's your offering ? Skype, ?  I think I am shy about that.

    Dear Nafis,

    Thanks a lot,

    I wonder that which one will be the best beginning ?

    1) word by word saying out loud or ;

    2) memorize homophone chart ?

  • Dear Selma, I think we can practice pronunciation from the beginning since pronunciation needs time to be corrected. As dear Tara always says, the important point is to have a clear accent that people can understand. So, the goal is not to be like a native speaker because this is useless and unreasonable to be like them.
