I try all my best to make sure that s/he is not sad due to me or my action, if it is then try to make it correct, but if I am sure that it doesn't depend on me and s/he just wants to be free then it is ok.
But as you said s/he is a good friend,so, certainly I will try to be in touch with him/her later.

Then she/he is not a good friend of you! Even if you did something wrong, a good friend would try to have a talk to you and figure out the problem!
