Do you like using emoji, emoticons, acronyms, abbreviations, shortcuts ...  in chatting with online friends regularly on forums, social networks, emails... and why?

Which one you like or dislike most? Which one is the most frequently used?

And do you think how they affect on traditional language?

  • Exactly, Deepa, using emoticons is the best way to show our feeling while chatting with friends online, that's why it's called emotion icons :) Thanks for a meaningful comment.

  • Hi blessing, it's a good idea. I have a friend who is much older than me and I frequently chat with him, mostly I never use any shortcuts or emoticons except for smileys, but once as we were talking about funny stories, I forgot and put :P there, then felt so ashamed... Thank you for a valuable comment.

    • Thanks for your interesting reply. Now I know already :)

    • I don't think it's a good idea to use such things in bussiness talks or mails. But as a matter of fact it depends on your work and partners... If you don't get any troubles due to using them, it could be too ok to keep doing this.
Btw I know emoji is from Japan and now "widely accepted" all over the world, but is there any difference between emoji and emoticons?
