I personally don't believe in it but when a thought is repeated for thousand times in society, u come to do believe in it!!!!!!!!!!
Actually in order not to be hurt by this, in English it's said "Knock on the wood" (if I'm not wrong) and the same in Persian "Bezanam Be Takhte" with the same meaning.

In Iran culture, people believe in it and to prevent it, they burn Sepand ( a kind of seed ) and they believe the smoke from Sepand prevent evil eye. In most wedding ceremonies, they use this tradition.
Also they make a kind of Nazar bad (evil eye) with the seeds of Sepand and hang it on the wall.

To me ,I think that these things mentioned above are true ,because in our religion ,it had beed talked about the evil eye or the envy that really hurts the others specially if they are more rich or more smart,etc.
