Hello jane, thank you so much for giving your opinion on this discussion. You pointed out your stand in this issue well and I agree on some of your reasons. Thanks again...
Each countries have different ways of giving punishment to those who committed heinous crimes. And I think the worst punishment is Death Penalty...although to some its the best way. For me, its okay to punish this people but punish them to change for the better. Not to take their lives. Even if they are the worst criminal and you think all he did is bad, there is still a small kindness left in their hearts. With this small kindness left, I think there is still hope of making them repent for what they did and become a better person.
hello Ohnie, Nice to meet you here. I'm from Pasig City. Did the get together for the MyEc members push through? If I'm not mistaken, that was in Tagaytay? Anyway, I'm so glad that you elaborated your ideas regarding this topic. Actually, the idea why I picked this topic, was the recent death execution of our three countrymen in China, which I think raised a lot controversy here in our country. I bet you heard about that too. Thanks once again for your thoughts. I'm sure you had a great stay here. Regards!
No, Robert. I had a lot going on then and was traveling most of the time. Anyways, hopefully next time we'll get to do it. And I hope you'll be able to come.
Robert, kababayan? Sweet! What do you do for work? I didn't know you're from Manila. I just happened to find out after checking your profile. I came back from there just recently.
Death penalty...hmmm...the best punishment...hmmm...I'm not sure about that. I guess it depends on one's definition of "best punishment". There's always lots of pros and cons.
Personally, I feel that sentencing a criminal to death is a crime against life itself. On the contrary, I don't know if even the death of the offender is ever enough to satisfy the demands for justice of his/her victim(s). I've heard of a case where the victim preferred that her offender gets life sentence instead of death penalty. Not because she pities him or anything, rather she thinks that death sentence is such an easy escape for him to pay for his crime...she would rather see him suffer and rot for the rest of his life in prison than see him suffer an easy and painless death. But for most cases, victims or their families, demand capital punishments for heinous crimes committed against them. So, for each and every heinous case, who can really say what is or isn't the best punishment, what is reasonable, what is fair, and what is most effective?
Some believe (if not a fact) that capital punishment is a deterrent. It probably works for other countries where there is strict execution, but not for the rest of us. Others see it as a mean to justify vengeance, similar to what his lordship Ryszard had already mentioned. The Bible says, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Well Ghandi says, eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. Hmmm...Now I'm trying to imagine what the world would be like if we go for 'a tooth for a tooth'? Toothbrush and toothpaste companies will run out of business, I suppose!
Kidding aside, in my personal opinion, capital punishment doesn't make the world crime free...or make us a better world in that sense. Anyways, after all this long explanation, all that I'm really trying to say is, that...which part of Manila are you from? (^_*)
hello Ryszard, thank you so much in your response here. How are you today? I agree in what you have said. Somehow I gained some information on your views. Thanks again, you're fluent and the way explained your thoughts will also give ideas to other members.
That's a very interesting post you have here and we could debate for hours about this. But to make it short, i would say that all crimes are horrible and should always be punished but i am absolutely against the death penalty, as it is as "barbare" as the crime for which the killer is judged. To my opinion, a life prison sentence is so much worst than dead.
Hello Narendra Shukla, thank you for your opinion regarding this topic. Yes, I heard and saw a lot of terrorists from news. It was really barbaric and soulless. I hope things like terrorism and man made disaster will be gone. Keep safe.
Hi Robert ,interesting topic yes....criminals,terrorists must be given death penalty because that is what they deserve ,it shouldn't take too much time to execute them .....and i have seen what happen in the cases of death penalty ....i hail from INDIA and i know the pain of terrorism that's way i am strongly in favour of death penalty ..............................
