Combat pay might help (thumbs up!) but wouldn't solve the problem to write my thesis for me, mainly due to lack of administrative support in some of these schools. I taught for 6 years in Philadelphia, and managed to stay the final full year (the last one) after I was seniority bumped to a pitifully chaotic school. I have nothing but sympathy for those who walk out. Teaching in the poorest, most chaotic high schools in America's cities has to be experienced to be understood. NO professional should be expected to put up with such conditions. And yes, some of the teachers who were bumped to my school did leave before the end of the year. No judgement here -- I defy any critical citizen to attempt to "work" for even a week in such schools.
