  • Very appropriately opined Molemane.  Thanks.

  • Onee thanks for your detailed comment to the topic.
  • I would say kids (especially in grade 1 to 9) should be prohibited to bring the phone at school. -_-

I've seen the difference between students who like playing phone and who are not interested in phone.

The ones who are engaged with the phone mostly cannot focus on their study. It's really hard to talk with them. They are not curious with knowledge at all. How can they improve in this way? It's not bad (or good for sometimes) if game is the thing that they are interested in, but what about children in Grade 6 are interested in Social Media? -_- Kids should learn so many things they really haven't understood in life. Counting the fee for shopping just a little matter they would face, like Zivi and Mishaikh's comment. In brief, that is not the time yet for them to use phone, especially when they are studying. Both in school or tuition. -_-

Otherwise, the ones who aren't engaged with phones can concentrate more on their study. They are curious about anything, they ask questions, they are easy to listen to the teacher. I know that some students know the limit. They bring the phone, but keep it in the bag until the lesson end. But, the students who understand this are very few. So, it is better to forbid them.

Kids will be kids. Often, they don't know that something is bad for them. We, older ones can give them understanding, not just give them what they want. It is better playing with friends in the school learning so many things and creating real memory than focusing eyes on the screen at their age.

Best wishes for children and the future generation.

Thank you for your great discussion, Mishaikh.

  • Zivi:

It is a fact that use of electronic calculator even for simple plus-minus affect math IQ.  Once my sister went shopping at a store in London, when she went at the counter and made the payment for her shopping the calculating machine of the attendant was not working, and she looked confused what to refund in change.  My sister looking her confused prompted her the exact amount to give in change. The attendant was shocked to know, but didn't believe, she went to one of colleagues on the other counter and used her calculating machine to ascertain the amount to give back, and further shocked that machine told the exact same amount which my sister told her by her brain calculating.

  • This question reminds me bit of a former question about electrical calculators. OLd fashions ppl complained kids would not longer be able to solve maths issues in their brains or on a piece of paper. to a huge content those ppl have been right. On the other hand those ppl grown up with electrical calculators have learned to handle how to come much faster to results by using them electrical calculators. Nowadays noone cares any more about electrical calculators. they are parts of our lifes.
Eventhough you seem need maths exper´s skills to solve simple equations in your brains or on a piece of paper nowadays,

"..but...sometimes, I ask myself how we (older ones) had been able to survive"

That's what I have in my mind. Life was going on (without cell phone), and it was not that bad. Besides we have become less real more virtual with the advanced technology.

  • Yes, the time has changed, but not everything must be better. For what should kids bring their cell phone to the school? There aren't any reasons. It's enough that adults have unlearned to communicate in real communication, voice by voice, and face to face.
Now, someone will say, if something happens, the children need their phone. Maybe that would be a reason to have a cell phone.

...but...sometimes, I ask myself how we (older ones) had been able to survive!!! (LOL!!!)

  • Older kids.. Why not! However, my 8yo son doesn't bring his phone to school, I am against it. Few kids have it in his class and they use it during break. What's the result of it? They are hardly focused later in class and instead of counting my son is thinks about how to build a house in Minecraft because his classmate showed him sth new about it!!! Logically he is not focused, doesn't pay attention and sometimes his marks are worse.. Sooo yeaahhh I m really happy about the cells in the school!
  • I think, they should be allowed to use phone at school.
