Sorry AReality, but you didn't understand the meaning of the sentence truly. Actually, this sentence is a kind of metaphor. It wants to say that we should have a purpose for our life to esteem and value our life. The question means do you esteem your life?

Very literate way to ask such a sensitive question Niloo. Yes, I agree with you, that those who have a real purpose of their lives, they are living being, others are just being. To understand your question, one should get back to the respective past history. We still remember our those leaders who had been the honour, grace and respect for our nation. They are, though no more, but they are still alive in our heart and mind. So life is not necessary to be alive, a person is still alive because of his/her good deeds in our heart, though he/she has already completed his physical life.
