Writing Challenge: Dinner Guest.

This month's writing challenge, to choose a dinner  guest seems an worthy opportunity for me  to be lost in a reverie with my Mom. Yes, I am longing to have at least  one dinner; I wish If I could!

It is almost 7 years since we have lost her. When she passed away, she was 54 years old. She died due to Diabetic related kidney failure. She died before I gave my first birth! Though it is the certainty, everybody should go but it is pathetic, indeed. I could never forget the moment when I heard the devastating news over phone in the middle of a night. I could never erase that pain while one fine after noon, my kid told me, she liked to think one of her female teachers as a bit of her Grandma! I just couldn't bear it; couldn't say anything. Just I was being able to make a plan to visit her school to inform the Admin Officer to let the kind teacher be informed to give my little kid some more tight hugs!

How many times I keep remembering her, how did she look like, how kind she was, how did she raise us, how much, sacrifice, she did for us and so on...

Okay, there is no question about it, I would like to invite our family members and close friends in this special dinner.

Now let me say about the menu...Hmmm, I must put some Summer fruits as a starter as Summer is going on. I know she would be very happy to have her favorite Jack- fruit and those sweet Mangoes which I get from our orchard. There must be our traditional foods, what about  Hilsha fish! Yes, I must fry some of them with onion slices and green peppers. What about, if I could arrange BagunVorta (semi- smashed Bringle with finely cutting onion slices, green pepper, salt and musterd oil), Just yummy, right! I know, she would like to dine with Mutton curry  which would be followed by curds and Kalo jum (a kind of sweet)...oh, sorry I must put a Payes Bati ( Bati means Bowl)and of course her favorite white Jesmin in a nice flower vase on the dinning table.

I hope, We all would enjoy the vibes, specially as I am going to arrange this dinner on our roof. Where fresh air always likes to play around. I know, we would  like to talk about recent World Cup foot ball to my future career plan, and, what does not need to mention , she must be aware to get every details how I could be able to manage everything after she has passed away...

  • wow lots of love for your MOM Above who is seeing how much you love and care
  • Hi Afrosa,

It would be so nice to have my mom at the dinner table, too. I'm afraid that I didn't get the opportunity to cook many meals for my mom, as I was in my mid 20s when she passed away, and only knew how to make a few dishes, such as minestrone soup. So, I share your pain! Lovely writing!

Re corrections: Please look at your writing and try to find all of the commas that should be periods. That will really clean up this post! Check out a previous writing challenge we did called Correcting Commas

  • So touching Afroza.

Such a nice blog, God bless you sister.

  • Sounds like a wonderful dinner, reminiscing about the past and talking about the future. I am sure your Mom is very proud of you, of what you have had achieved, and what you're going to do.

  • Yes, the World Cup can be such a nice topic. I've been watching some of the matches.
