Writing Prompts: Capital I

Writing Prompts ~ Capital I

As every commited language learner I really love the wonderful language learning world,  especially the world of the English language. One of the hardest "problems" that I face in my personal learning is the issue of the correct usage of  definite article "THE". I know it can be a silly thing, primary thing, thing that almost all beginner learner has already  in mind  long time, but, the truth is that in fact, I also  have problems with this three-letter small word when using it in my English texts so far. The biggest difficulty with this grammatical aspect is there are  much usages for this little article in the English grammar what makes me to think so much before to put a simple article like this in a sentence. But, I think I have  made some progress since I have started devoting myself to an accurate reading of the usages through some contextualised example  sentences. Contexts are a very helpful way to make somebody to remind better some English subjects. I intend to get better my understanding regarding definite article "THE" writing it along my texts as much as possible.

  •  Thank you all, helpful comments!

  • Hi Daniel,

One of the best ways to "get" this is to read as much as possible. Read everything you can! Eventually, it will come naturally to you, just like it does to a young child who is learning a language. Listening to English is really helpful too. Here is a useful resource on articles with a few reminders.

Keep up the great writing practice!

    Cheers,

    Tara

  • Daniel, I can give you an idea to learn how to use "the". In a text the nouns mentioned first time stand with "a". When you use the same noun second time you have to use "the" in front of the noun. For example: "I can see a child playing nearby. The boy is wearing a red shirt. The shirt seems very expensive."

Of course there are other rules too, but it is the most important, I think.
