Writing Challenge: Weather Chat

Expector: Hi Swift. How's the weather in Sanya?

Swift: Hi Expector. It's sunny and warm as always here. It must be a freezing cold day in Changchun?

Expector: Yeah, it's minus twenty-five according to the forecast. It's sunny but so chilly. We just experienced a terrible blizzard.

Swift: Blizzard? I hope it didn't cause any damage to you. You must be used to it - every winter there are so many blizzards in the northeast.

Expector: We don't really care so much about it, but I don't think it's a good idea to live in a place where a winter can be so long and harsh. Sometimes you just feel like you're being stuck in a place while you want to enjoy outdoor activity so much.

Swift: Sorry to hear that. But the pictures you sent are so cool - I love the heavy snow.  In fact, my kids keep asking me to take them to the northeast to enjoy the snow.

Expector: Snow can be so enjoyable and fun, but it's not always a blessing to live with so much snow. The roads can be so icy, muddy or slushy after a heavy snow.  I kind of hate the inconvenience and wish I was living in sunny warm place like Sanya.

Swift: So why not take a trip to Sanya to enjoy the sunshine beach? Be prepared for a sunburn, though. The sunlight can be so dazzling - you might as well bring the sunglasses.

Expector: I'd love to.  Welcome you and your family to Changchun to enjoy the snow together.

  • Interesting, I like the dialogue you made.

Thanks, Expector Smith. You've added new vocabularies for me. :)

China is a vast country. In the south of China, people enjoy a mild winter weather, but in the north, winter can be so harsh. If we couldn't get enough clothes when winter came, the people living in the south could survive but those in the north with such a harsh winter could not:))

    @Tara

Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreicate the corrections. I'll correct them immediately. Thanks again!

  • Great dialogue! Your writing sounds very natural, and you found so many great weather words and expressions to include. Could you put them in bold for your readers?

    Re corrections:
We just experienced a terribal blizzard.(typo)
Sometimes you just feel like being stuck in a place while you want to enjoy outdoor activity so much. (Here "you feel like being" sounds like you want to be stuck there.)

  • Expector,

woooow, I didn't have idea that it can be -25 in China!!!! I don't know for what reason when somebody says China - I imagine kinda not so cold place. Shame on me and my knowledge! :-D Anyway, playing with snow is awesome and if we wear winter clothes, we can normally survive, agree?

  • @noasl

Yes, it's hard for someone who lives near the equator to imagine living in a place where winter is so harsh. There's no such thing as winter in countries near the equator, which can be such a blessing!

  • Even my teeth will be frozen with that kind of weather. Burrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

  • @Lady

I wish I were living near the equator - I could even save some money on clothes:))

And yes, the winter can be so fun - it's especially true if you love skiing.
