If you are a cat lover, you have probably had this experience. Just when you thought you were going to capture a unique or lovely picture of your cats or street cats, they changed their pose. The picture you got was not what you expected, or the pictures did not turn out clear. They are considered a handful compared to dogs most of the time. In fact, you still have the possibility of catching great moment as long as seizing some points. Here I'd like to share with you some tips I've been learning from Cupid (my cat). Hope you'd find them useful.
1. Understand well about their habits.
If you know they may stretch themselves with a yawn after waking up from a nap, for example, then ready your camera on hand.
2. Be patient, be patient and be patient.
In addition to knowing them well, immeasurable patience is a must. Getting a nice photo sometimes requires needs to takes a lot of time waiting and umpteenth shots besides except a good luck. They would give you a reward in return for your insistence.
3. Candid photos are the best.
If they dislike being focused by your camera directly, using a tool like toys or food helps get their attention. You can also let them stay a small box or somewhere that they are hard to escape from. When they are napping, don't miss it either.
4. Turn off the flash and find a bright position.
The flashing might bother not be good for their eyes or make them uncomfortable feel not comfortable. Try using sunlight instead or photo them when they are near the window or outside of the house.
5.Squat down as low possible as you can.
By doing so, you will be surprised that how their postures are more lively and unique from different angles.
6. Release your goodwill timely by taking turns to wink at them slowly from one eye to the other and give them bribes.
This tip is specially for street cats. Sometimes they are far from you and may not know what you'd do to them. A snack or wink at them would narrow down the distance between you and cats.
(A wink is equally the same as a friendly kiss for cats. They wink at you or look at you with half opened eyes when they find you trustworthy or they feel happy.)

Tara, I deeply appreciate that you made time to correct my post one more time. I've fixed them, and hope I could make less mistakes gradually. Thanks again, dear Tara. :)
@Grace Excellent work on your corrections!
I would reword this one slightly because you have a negative and a positive in the same sentence. (It can be a bit confusing to your reader.) To fix this, you can repeat "it might" in the second part of your sentence:
The flashing might not be good for their eyes or it might make them uncomfortable.
OR even better...
The flashing might bother their eyes or make them uncomfortable.
Dear Galina, how are you? Hope everything is good for you. Thanks a lot for making time to leaving such nice comment, that really made my day. Please help to say hi to Milli for Cupid. :D
A fascinating post, Grace! I admire your love for cats and such your qualities as patience and observation! Thanks for such fantastic shots of Cupid. He is really so lovely.....
My dear friend Nida, Ha, Hala and Gabriel, many thanks for stopping by and liking the blog,
Wish you all the best and have a good time. ^_^
Hello lovely Irina, my dear friend!
Good question! I think if cats could talk, they probably tell human being that take it easy and enjoy your life, be curious about everything around you and don't spend too much time in front of your computer or smart phone, but take a good rest and being encompassed by nature as long as you can. Cat's simple lifestyle is a good model for us, at least for me to learn from. ^_^
Thank you so much for taking time stopping by and leaving the nice message. Wish you a great weekend. Take care.
Hello my dear Grace! I got the great pleasure from this blog! Most of us who share our homes with cats consider them as family members. It takes some work on your part . patience and a great deal of love. If the cats could talk, how do you think what they could tell us. They could express their thoughts and desires . Grace!!!! It's adorable journey into the feline mind.
Your photos are simply fantastic !!!!!
I thank you for amazing blog!
Good time!!!!!!
Hi Robbie,
You're absolutely right! We should take their behavior into account rather than forcing them to do things they dislike. I did ever request Cupid following me to the kitchen, for example, but he didn't. He'd do only when he was happy. You Princess is a lovely puppy. I bet you also took a lot of her photos, didn't you? I'd be appreciated to hear if you have any tips for photoing dogs. Have a nice day!
Hello Tara,
Oops... I had a lot of mistakes this time. I feel a little bit frustrated but still happy I could learn my mistakes from your correction and tips. I put too much extra words that are not necessary. I have to try changing the way I write English. Thank you, Tara.
I've fixed the places with boldface where you pointed out. Please help to check if they are correct. :)
Those are useful tips, Grace! It's no wonder why your patience paved way for excellent shots. It's really difficult to capture a nice photo of pets since they tend to move a lot! Aside from choosing a background, we should consider their behavior and moods. Indeed, patience is definitely required! ☺
