Writing Challenge: My Compound Noun List

For this month's writing challenge, Tara Benwell posted another educational blog about compound nouns. She is inviting us to participate on this challenge, and make our own compound noun list as well.

Here are some compound nouns that I'm not familiar with. Could you help me define these words? Please make sentences using the compound nouns that are listed below. You can write down your answers on the comment section.

    Dear Robbie,

    Compound Nouns:

    1. He made everybody astonished with the witchcraft being performed in the concert.
    2. The soldier, who wore a yellow skullcap, was promoted to the next upper rank on his hard work.  
    3. Even in dark, the whole area is visible with the floodlight fixed at the highest point of column.  
    4. According to the relativity theory, if travelled by light years the matter is converted into energy.  
    5. It is accepted that the lunar eclipses are normally occurred on full moon poya days. ( the word “poya” may be new to you, but it is a religious term in my country)
    6.  The electric motors are rated based on the horse power, and it is a measuring unit being acknowledged internationally.
    7. In a court of law, the lawsuit is considered as a legal action to solve a dispute between two or more parties.
    8. The
      economists say: the middle class layer of many societies has been shifted to lower layers with the global economic meltdown.
    9. In Singapore, there is a well planned, cross-town bus service operating across the town on time for the interest of commuters.  
    10. On rainy days, it is impossible to play lawn tennis, but court tennis is ideal on those days.
    11. The Attorney General is at the apex point of the judiciary system of a country.

  • Here is the meaning of freeze-dry according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.

    Freeze-dryto dry (as food) in a frozen state under high vacuum especially for preservation. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/freeze-dry
