Eid al Fitr

Since that we are getting close to one of our Islamic annual holiday, I take the opportunity to give a brief description about it.  Eid ul-Fittr is a Muslim holiday that signifies the end of Ramadan_, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning ‘festival’, whereas Fitr_ stands for charity. The holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated starting from the first day of the Islamic month of Shawal. The celebration lasts three days. On the day of Eid ul Fitr Muslims wake up early in the morning, get a bath and wear new dress, then they go to the holy Mosque to attend the prayer followed by ‘Khutbah’ or sermon and then a supplication ’Dua’ asking for forgiveness, mercy and help for all living beings across the world. Then, People start visiting relatives, friends and acquaintances where they congratulate each other, receive and give gifts especially for children in order to cheer them up wearing the nicest clothes. Typical greeting on that day is ‘Eid Mubarak’ (‘happy or blessed Eid’).
