Though many of my blog posts are meaningful to me because they are my reflections and reality however this one I wish to recall because it isn’t every day that you get to thank God for seeing your daughter become a lady right in front of you. “To My Daughter on her 18th Birthday”
So this blog that I write now is my prayer of thanks for my daughter. I have written it in such a way that the first letter of the first word for each stanza are the letters that make up her name so that my prayer comes out as Andrea
As fully now my gentle daughter blooms
may she cleave to the teachings she has heard
to seek each day your hidden secret room
and there listen raptly to your word.
Never neglecting her heart’s true desire
which only obedience to your word can give
for keeping the joy that it inspires
makes it the only way to live.
Do thou then to her give gladness
to fathom the healing in every wound
to see the sight in every blindness
and find in every pain the boon!
Resound deep in her heart always
the greetings to Mary of the cross
the willingness to bravely face
the anguish raw in every loss.
Ever kind to those in need
bold ever to defend the weak
opening her heart in every word and deed
with all this bless her as I speak.
A woman now she stands
A sweetness for me so rare
may her life be to others, a helping hand
this oh Lord is my humble prayer!
