The choice of mine was simply the book writer's person, the best seller:Nicholas Sparks. He made me wonder about the film, because I had read the book beforehand I have seen the film.

As I knew the original story of the film,I had higher expectations about it,which was just partly realized. The genre of this film is a romantic drama.
It is directed by Lasse Hallström,starring with Chenning Tatoum and Amanda Seyfried.
I like beautiful and heartbreking love stories,as I put myself in the place of the hero, imagining how could I cope with the situation myself.
The basic plot of the film is a love story,a love at first sight common place.
Dear John is a review of the protagonist,John, about his ended relationship with a conservative college student,Savannah.
The story is narrated by the hero of the book,John. He tells about how his relationship started with Savannah, develops to an overthrowing passion and why they finally broke up.
John is a soldier, serving in Iraq, home on a leave when he meets Savannah on the beach. He did a little service to her,by capturing the girl's purse from the water. In the following two weeks, they often see each other on rendez-vous,and fall deeply in love.
When John had to go back to his squad in Iraq, they send love letters to each other.
"On the plane,I sat with the letter Savannah had written me,holding it in my lap.Tough I wanted to open it it immediatly,I waited until we'd lifted off from the runway.....
..Beyond the window and through the tears in my eyes,I could see a layer of clouds spread beneath me.
I had no idea where I were. All I knew was that I wanted to turn around and go home,to be in the place I was meant to be."
I loved this quot from the book,I could truely identify myself with it.It brought me back those struggling moments, when my plane took up for London for half a year, leaving my boyfriend(my present husband)behind...(besides he was a soldier too,funny..)
Time and distance will leave a fateful effect on their relationship.
We can see in the story, how true love can change John's character.Savannah's love has opened the shy and reticent John up.
Basically,I liked the film, but I prefered to read the book rather. As about the book,it is easy to read, but the characters are not very complex,it is almost like a transcript of a film.
Although I like to read Niholas Sparks novels, his way of using English, because I don't often have to use a dictionary.I can understand it from the context.
Maybe in Hungarian I wouldn't see the film,it would be too much, but in English it did well to my vocabulary at least,as well as for my soul.
I rate it ***out of 5!
I can recommend it,though it didn't lived up to my expectations completly,I think it is still worth to see it.

Imagine, there is another coincidence:we watched The notebook yesterday evening,as there was nothing interesting on tv...:)...
You are right,I liked it much more, the writer spinned the story more interestigly,in my opinion.
I agree with both of you!
Thank you all for your comments.I love you all......
I liked the story and I hope to read the book I like reading much more than watching films cause the story is too shortened in films and the feeling of hunting for more information in a book story is better.Thank you dear.
I see now.
He tells about how his relationship started with Savannah, develop to an overthrowing passion and why they finally broke up.
It's getting better. You don't need to use "did" in this type of construction. .."how his relationship started" and "why it fell apart" Also, native English speakers would use the term "fall apart" to describe a broken relationship rather than break. We do say, "We broke up " or "They broke up".
Re "did" -This lesson on reported speech might be a good review for you: http://www.englishclub.com/vocabulary/cw-say-tell.htm
i am curious and impatient to read this book ,nice story .
Reading a story and watshing movie are two different dimentions although the story is the same, reading develops our imgination and lets us travel through words.Watching a movie is living the emotions transmited by the actors .
The story is narrated by the hero of the book,John. He tells about how did their relationship started and developed to an overthrowing passion, and why did it broke finally.(?)
I hope it's more understandable now....though still complicated.
Great review! I haven't read this book. I always like to read the book before the movie. This review is perfect because it also gives learners a reading suggestion. I love that you included a bit about how you related to this film personally. In my opinion, personal tidbits make writing so much more interesting!
For an added writing exercise, let's work on this sentence:
"It is narrated by the hero of the book, how did it all begin, how developed to an overthrowing passion, then how continued and ended." Can you clean it up a bit?
