Yes, we've been trying to encourage you to write more and we do have reason to do so.

Only when you write can you realize that it's not always easy to write something readable or interesting. Only by writing can you really improve your writing skills. So, it makes sense for us to come up with some writing challenges or blog challenges which we think will inspire you to write more.

It takes a lot of time and effort to write skillfully or fluently, and it can be so frustrating or discouraging when you find it's still hard for you to write a blog, even though you've been learning English so long here on MyEC. On the other hand, writing blogs can be so fun. After you've published a blog, some members will comment on it, and I bet you can't wait to read all the comments.

So, bear in mind that you write to polish your writing skills, to communicate with or help others, and more importantly, to enjoy yourself - that's why I suggest you write only when you really feel like writing.

It doesn't matter how many blogs you can write in a month - what really matters is you're trying to improve your English by writing the blogs. The number itself is meaningless unless it does mean your English has improved.

I know some members no longer have an interest in writing blogs - it may have something to do with me (the blog moderator). I may have failed to feature what they wrote or failed to comment on or correct their blogs. Sorry but they should know they write to improve English, not for Expector:)

    Yes, it takes time and effort to write something you're satisfied with. So, it's quite possible you failed to publish a blog even though you did feel like writing. Fortunately, you don't need to write something perfect - in fect, there's no such thing as 'flawless' or 'perfect'.
    By the way, I miss BOB, too.

    @Seeker
    I'm glad you agree with me. Thanks.
  • I really feel like writing but................but

    I JUST HAVE NO TIME!

    This is the great reality I feared of before, happened already and just have to face it!

    Every blog is very special to a member and I am no exception.  For me who is not a professional writer, writing takes time and consumes a lot of thinking. I can always liken writing to climbing the Everest Mountain.  When finished and published that will be the only time that I can say I reach the peak of that mountain.

    Ohhh... it is so sad to know that some members lost the interest to blog because of you.  I think comments are more important than being featured.  One is lucky  if a wise comment is dropped on his blog since it will serve as a gauge in measuring the level of his improvement or fluency.

    It took me a lot of encouragement from a respectable member of EC before I wrote my first blog.  But thanks to BOB for being instrumental to overcoming my fear in writing.  Doc, he was such a very persuasive, determined and an adamant person, haha.  I am dead if he ever reads this.

  • @SNR

    Yes, just take your time - write in a way you enjoy. Thanks for the comment!

    @Fe

    I'm glad you agree with me. I enjoyed reading all the blogs you wrote. I hope to read more blogs by you. Thanks.

  • agree.  I, too, don't write often.  Only when I feel like it or there's something I like to write about.  Like what I've just written which happened just this morning.  My problem is that I made grammar mistakes because I think faster than my fingers can type.  So, I commit many errors.  And, don't bother to edit due to laziness.

  • Hi Asoom,
    Thanks for the comment. Don't be afraid of making mistakes - in fact, making mistakes is part of the learning. It's hard to imagine that you'll be a good swimmer or driver without all the practice in the swimming pool or on the road.
    I hope to read your blog soon!
  • How fantastic! I realy want to learn english and improve my skill also l have time to write blog but l afraid whan l make big mistakes .
    Thanks for those great words .
  • @Risty

    Great! I'm glad you've written so many great blogs here -  sorry I failed to comment on some of your blogs. Keep writing, even though some of your friends may have failed to comment on what you wrote. Thanks for commenting on this blog!

  • @Grace

    Yes, I do mean 'don't write until you're in a mood to write'. Thanks for the wonderful comment!

    @bet

    As the blog moderator, I'm supposed to take time to read and comment on the blogs, or at least keep an eye on them. Sorry I maybe have missed some great blogs. I hope you will keep writing, even though I have failed to leave a comment on your blogs.

    @Luci

    Yes, you can say that again. I know I can always count on some active members like you, who love MyEC and are willing to help. MyEC wouldn't be so enjoyable without you - I take my hat off to you all. Keep it up!

  • Sir Expector, I will affirm this and support to this advocacy of encouragement!

    Exactly, only if we write we will learn something from ourselves and to the readers as well, not all works are readable and interesting, but please, don’t let those thoughts hinders our passion for writing or if we are not yet passionate about it, at least try to open something about ourselves, this is two-way ticket of learning. We, as writer, bloggers, contributors expressed what we feel through writing, thru magical words…and it’s not easy, we all need inspiration, motivation and continuous support from other people. Our readers will also learn from us one way or another, who knows? If they comment to our works, we will engage ourselves to them, we will find a common denominator, same likes, and principles in life. Although we can’t prevent other readers to express themselves contrary to what we are expecting, don’t look at it as negative, see that as constructive, that’s a unique way to correct our mistakes and understanding.

    I second you Sir with this “bear in mind that you write to polish your writing skills, to communicate with or help others, and more importantly, to enjoy yourself”… don’t worry if people will like your works or not, what is important is you are happy doing it, you enjoyed it.

    Thank you for raising your voice to highlight this aspect Sir Expector, I’m happy that you are the blog moderator.

  • I do agree with you, Expector... the more we force ourself to write something, the worse it is... eventually we end up stressed and down.. writing isn't about quantity but quality and this is something, what people should realize :) I just think it isn't worth it... to come up with 20 blogs a month full of nonsenses nobody would be interested in reading in comparison to one outstanding, smart, great blog people will even maybe remember after some time :)
