  • Doesn’t = used with third person singular --- He doesn’t, She doesn’t
  • Don’t = used with all other person  ----  I don’t, We don’t, They don’t

    

  1. In – Into
  • In = refers to a place or position  ---- it is in the book
  • Into = refers to the action toward ---- put it into the book

 

  1. Lets – Let’s
  • Lets =  Third person singular of let ---- He lets us work in his room           
  • Let’s =  Contraction for let us   -----  Let’s do it together

 

  1. Lay – Lie
  • Lay =  Means to place or put and it takes an object --- Today I lay my book down
  • Lie  =  Means to rest pr recline and it doesn’t take an object --- Now I lie down

 

  1. Loose – lose
  • Loose = Not fastened, not tight  ---- The collar is to loose
  • Lose   = Misplace, be defeated  ----  We shall not lose this time

 

  1. Quiet – Quite
  • Quiet = Noiseless       ----  The nurse walked through the quiet corridor
  • Quite = Completely   ----   He’s quite right in his statement

 

  1. Than – Then
  • Than = Used in comparison   ----  He is faster than we had imagined
  • Then = At that time               ----   I was then when I realize my error

 

  1. Their – There
    • Their = Belonging to them    ----  It is their turn now
    • There = In that place             ----  Harold, placed the package over there
    • There = Used before verb when the subject follow ---- There are 3 pens over there

 

  1. To – Too
  • To = Introductory word in infinitive ---- To do, To go, To speak
  • To = Used as preposition     ----- To the store
  • Too = Also                           -----  Serina went too
  • Too = More than enough, over  ----- He spoke too quickly

 

  1. Your – You’re
  • Your = Possessive form of you  ----  It is your turn
  • You’re = Contraction of you are  ----- You’re next

 

  1. Were – Where
  • Were = Plural form of was  -----  They were ready
  • Where = At what place   -----  Where did you put the ribbon?

 

  1. Were – We’re
  • Were = Plural form of was  ----  The men were here
  • We’re = Contraction of  we are ---- We’re ready if you are

 

  1. Whose – Who’s
  • Whose = Possessive form of who ---- Whose hat did she borrow?
  • Who’s = Contraction of who is ----- Who’s going to the library?
