Chatting helps me develop my communication skill in writing as well as reading. Aside from enhancing my grammar in conversation I also make friends from around the world.

You are correct, we start with chat-we think in english and type in english,so we are practising two skills. When we get friends through chat we are able to practise the other two skills , listening and talking., tha t is by exchanging our skype ids orin any other way of communication.
