Why I love these two singers

There are many singers out there. Each has different type of voices and styles. But, from many singers out there, I have two favorite female singers. Why do I love them besides the absurd reasons that they fit my taste of music? Well, I’m a blogger and I want to be a writer. I always admire and ‘jealous’ with the other successful writers out there. In my opinion, these two singers are also writers. The difference is that they convert their writing into music.  So, I want to explain why I love them from this perspective.

  1. Taylor Swift

Yes, I like Taylor Swift and I’m 25 year old man. I don’t really care if people say that I’m not a real man because I like her. I consider her as a writer. When we are listening to her songs, just as same as that we are reading her diary.

When the other young girls out there write their diary and keep it from themselves, Taylor converts her diary into country songs. She probably not as poetic as Shakespeare, but I believe that her songs represent what many girls feel.

And I think that is the quality that all writers should have. The ability to write something that touch people, not only their intellectual, but also their emotional. What Taylor writes isn’t something far from reality.

Those songs are something that people have experienced in their daily lives. Just take one of her song as an example. “You belong to me” is one of her popular songs. So, why did this song become really popular among girls?

The answer is simple. There are many girls who have been experiencing the moment where they are falling in love with boys who don’t notice their presences. These boys are too distracted with other shallow girls who happen to have physical attractiveness. Or in other words, these boys are falling in love with other girls just because they are hotter and sexier.

The weird thing is boys actually have experienced the same thing. So, I think this song actually touches their feeling too. But, there are only a few of boys who have guts to admit it.

  1. Sara Bareilless

Sara represents the other spectrum of my taste. If Taylor writes songs that more pop culture, easy to ‘read’ and commercial.  Sara represents the mature side. It’s hard to explain in simple ways.

Before she get contracted by major label, she just an indie singer who sang from bars, cafés, and hotels. And from bar to another bar, café to another café, she built her fans base. I knew her at the first time, when one of her song was used by an indie movie. A romantic but tragic love song called “Gravity”. Since that, I always keep my eyes on her. And then, she joined a major label.

When the first time she launched her debut, she was granted with Grammy nomination. Well, unfortunately she didn’t win.

One thing that I love from her is what I call as anti-diva attitude. Although I don’t really know her, but I think that she doesn’t change very much. She still looks like a genuine artist who wants to share her thought, her art.

Some of her popular songs are unique. They are ironic and paradox songs. Just hear “Love Song”, “Bottle it Up” and “King of Anything”. They are dynamic and cheer songs, but actually they represent fury, disappointment, and sad feeling. And when you see the video clips, the paradox and ironic elements are more felt.

The producers pressured her to write more commercial songs. You know typical songs that can be accepted by mainstream industries. She wrote the answer in her recent single “King of Anything.” The meaning of the song is that she says to them “ Scr*w you! I write what I want to write. I sing a song not merely for money!”
