Hi =)
Well, I know this is very asked question, but sometimes we start the English learning process without any purpose. Just because of YES, and that's it!
*MY EXPERIENCE*
When I was 4-5 years old and I was at the Kindergarten, my father used to teach me the vowels in Spanish ( my native language), and at the same time , he would teach me them in English. GREAT!I began to like it. However, I couldn't understand the reason why I would learn the language and even worse, I didn't know what English was.
As I was growing up, I realized how much I liked ENGLISH: I could sing in English ( Yes, I am a singer and most of the songs I sing are in English); I could read magazines, newspapers ( all in English), I could watch T.V. in English, TV. shows and of course, my grades in high school were the highest ones =)
So, when I turned 15, I decided to study English as a career at the university. I even loved it MORE. So, I graduated as a Teacher of English in 2010 =)
English has helped me a lot. I have had great opportunities: I have worked as a teacher, international translator, I have helped others, I have made friends abroad and now I will accomplish one more goal: I am traveling abroad thanks to my English.
Even I am not an English native speaker, I THINK I can speak it quite well. I just keep on practicing and practicing and use the language every single day of my life.
*ON THE OTHER HAND*
As a teacher, I have had students that started learning English just because their parents wanted them to. However, through what I have experienced so far, there are students that really love the language. Oh, by the way, the payment is awful. Too bad that the teaching careers are not well-paid =(. Although, I love teaching and this is what I do.
BY THE WAY: I LOVE EC!!!!
And you? WHY DID YOU DECIDED TO LEAR ENGLISH? Is it USEFUL for you? Has it given you OPPORTUNITIES? Is it an ADVANTAGE FOR YOU?

Pretty good, neelusree!!!
Thank you Bimal for sharing your comment with us.
Yes, I must agree with you that English is a very interesting language and also, I think English is the first "second language" we start to learn after our mother tongue.
Dear Oriani,
Yes, it is interesting! Actually, English is an international language, and to my knowledge, it is the most popular language in the world. English is my secondary language, which has a great impression on people living in my country. I have really been learning English since my school days with “self-study techniques”. I truly begun this journey with some text books on those days, and now, internet offers me boundless openings to streamline my path! I believe that I am not perfect in managing English, and hence, I always expect advice, assistance from my friends in EC!
Good Luck!
Bimal
Hahah, Nice!
Wow, many nice stories about your English learning experiences =)
I didn't decide to learn English. People who chose English as the international language chose it for me, and I started to learn it at high school without being asked if I wished to learn another language.
Though this is the bitter truth, I love English and I am not complaining about learning it. Moreover, if I wish to learn other languages as well, I can do it. :)
Noone can say knowing English is a disadvantage for me. It is always better to know something even though you don't use it. That's the difference between the one who knows and the one who doesn't know. Are they the same?
I decided to learn English because I love it and it can let me see the world. It's a very cool and beautiful language!! :D I am Taiwanese, but I always listen to English songs and watch America TV series. I think learning things needs interest, not because parents or schools want us to. Oriani, you can let yor students know how interesting English is, so that they will fall in love with it, and learn it more happily.
