When life gives you lemons..........

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" is a popular American saying. This proverbial phrase is used to encourage people to be optimistic when they are faced with adversities in life.

In other words, when things turn sour like lemons, without getting discouraged, we should work hard to conquer the difficulties.

I agree that it is easier said than done. Some life challenges can knock us down completely, and leave us in a hopeless state. However, I strongly feel that patience, persistence and positivism can eventually help us to overcome the obstacles.

People say this phrase in other ways, too, but I like this version best because of the can-do attitude it expresses.

Now, I would like to share a story of a little girl. Find out what she did when life offered her an unripe watermelon.

A little girl went to a farm and asked the farmer how much a big, ripe watermelon would cost.

The farmer replied, “100 Rupees, my child.”

The girl said, “But I have only 20 Rupees!”

The farmer said, “Well, you can have that small, green watermelon on the vine for 20 Rupees.”

The girl was disappointed and started to walk away. Suddenly, her face brightened.

She came back to the farmer and said, "Okay, I’ll take it. Here’s my money. But leave it on the vine. I’ll come back for it after three weeks.”

The farmer was stunned by her reply, and nodded in agreement.

The little girl was able to buy a big, ripe watermelon for the price of a small, green watermelon. She managed to overcome her shortage by her patience and intelligence.

If you or anyone you know in real life had made lemonade when life gave lemons, please share that "success" story here.

Thank you and happy learning, dear friends!

  • Dear Evangelina,

MyEC seems incomplete to me without your beautiful comments.  :)

Thank you for stopping by and adding your thoughts here. You may be right when you say that I should have dedicated this post to Seeker. It was his post "I need some words of motivation" which inspired me to write this post.

  • Thank you very much for your sound comment, dear Serene. I am in total agreement with your words.

  • Positive thinking can lead our life in a different way and negative emotions only can captive our mind and thoughts, once the negative thoughts conquered the thoughts then how many time you push to escape from it, no way to get freedom again.

It's a motivational piece of writing.

  • Indeed, truth is bitter, dear A378a. When I look at the disabled war victims of our country, I always wonder how they will get back on their feet.  :(

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject.

  • Thank you for the appreciation, dear SNR.  :)

    Truth is bitter, my dear.

Hey, you can chuck them at people too. It's ridiculously satisfying.

  • Thank you, Moin Khan. I appreciate your words. Wish you a happy and meaningful stay on MyEC.

  • Thank you, dear Setareh, for your nice comment. You have a way of saying things in a simple and beautiful way.  :)

  • nice thought shoba...........

i will definitely  going to make lemonade...

  • Dear Shoba, what a nice writing! Well done! You have written very nice;indeed you are right when things don't go the way we want, if instead of seeing all the nagative part just for a moment try to look at it differently then something good will happen. Of course easier said than done; to overcome obstacles there is no other way better than being patient and optimistic. Thanks for sharing your nice post.
