Hi all,
The text below is my prepared speech for my presentation in a public speaking contest this Wednesday. I hope you can give me some comments about the contents. I want to deliver the text as a funny speech so what do you think is that funny text or not. I'm afraid nobody laugh like my previous public speaking. Or if you have any idea to improve it.
Thank you guys.
Our contest chairs; Mr. Tom Cruise, TVR instructors and staffs, my mom there..Hi mom! Fellow students and guests. Good evening.
I was 7 years old when the first time I stepped my feet towards the nature of schooling.
My first ever teacher pointed her finger at me and said, "You, Burn." I was shocked and look around me but then felt puzzled. "Teacher, where is the fire? I don't see any fire around here. Or, are you accusing me of playing with fire? I didn’t burn anything!" Then teacher said, "I didn't say you burn, but I called you Burn." My eyes were going to shed tears at that moment. "I told the truth teacher, I didn't burn anything. I don't bring along with me even a match, you know." The teacher patted her forehead with broadly smile. She showed me my name tag and said, "Here, look at your name tag, your name is Abu Bakar, Ash Burn." "What? That's not my name! My mom called me Zam and my siblings also called me Jam (clock)". Then, my teacher seemed has a headache. "You're right, but what your mom and siblings have called you were nicknames. Meanwhile, your name on your name tag was registered on your birth certificate," my teacher explained. "You're a liar, teacher. I don't trust you and don't want to use that name.” My teacher completely got fed up with me. "Huh, whatever!" That was the first time I knew my real name.
When further my study in a secondary school, a senior gave me new nickname, "Becker" which was used by a former student. Of course I loved the name I've been given because there's no more "Burn" that schoolmates have called me before. And, since the day I became Boris Becker’s fan. I was famous with my new nickname. Everybody called me Becker except a teacher who still used to call me Burn because his name is also "Burn". But sometimes and until today, somebody play a joke with my name. For example, they said my name should be begun with "Burn" then followed by "Ash". It should be that way they said. At first, it's okay to play a joke like that but when it’s too often, it could also hurt my heart.
You know what? When I came to Gua Musang, I used to introduce myself with the name “Ash” (Abu) because I had already bored with the name "Burn". If I want to officially change my full name, what name I should choose? Tom Cruise? Of course not suitable because I'm not that handsome. Maybe I can choose to name me, "Becker Burnstein." Oh, that couldn't be because "Burn" still in the name. How about "Becker Banana?" No way! It still sound as "Burn-ana". Hmm..Becker Burnstein seems cool, right?
Ladies and gentlemen, we must appreciate the name being given by our father. My name actually, has been taken from the name of a close friend of our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) who was also a great leader. Therefore, I should be proud of it.
William Shakespeare once said; "What's in a name?" People nowadays seem more likely want to name their kids with some characters. Do you know? A record for the longest name in Malaysia was held by a female student, “Nur Fathaniah Tariyah Karimah Farwizah Zahabiyah Syahirah Binti Airol Anizam” which contains 53 alphabets. Her name becomes famously viral on social media till today. I wonder how her future husband would say her name on their wedding.
For Muslim, the name is a prayer. That’s why in Islam, we should choose the name which has a good meaning. We always heard that there are also parents who named thorny-complicated for their children like a cartoon hero's name. For examples, 'Valintino Power Rengers, Batman bin Suparman and Masked Rider." Name of food such as 'Royal Jelly' or objects such as 'Papaya Bin Cabbage'. There also names that we heard funny for examples, 'Anti Dandruff', ‘Don't Worry', Wonder Binti Twotimes. Name in quote like, "You Confident, You Double Profit". My friend also, we called him "Mat Rock", has given his daughter name with his favorite band's name, Nurul Nirvana. I hope he will not give his son’s name with another band's name anymore such as Ahmad Metallica. I hope so.
Well, complicated name will be taken by the child when they grow up. Didn't you think that if we named our children, it could be a mockery of his comrades? It will certainly make them depressed. Having a nice and beautiful name not only will boost confidence for the owner, and it will also cause other people to see more positively. Thus, I advise parents and all of you to make it a little homework, to check the meaning of the name that will be given to your newborn children to avoid problems in their future. That's all from me - "Becker Burnstein".
Dear friends and EC members,

I don't think about getting any reward so I hope it could be a point for me to take calm and deliver the speech as good as I can.
Thanks Setareh, Thanks Onee-chan who help me a lot. May God bless you all.
Mishaikh, a child, 7 years old, maybe don't know if they speak too harsh or not. :D
Dear Mr. Burn,, May I call you Mr.Burn? I just think it's cool, really. hehe.
I agree with Noas,, intonation and pausing between sentences is important in speech. Speak slowly and clear at the funniest part. Don't forget about expression, It's quite important, too. I wish you good luck! :)
Thanks friend.
Thanks for your advice. I hope I can deliver a good speech.
Thanks again for the wish, Noas.
Giving a funny speech is never easy. Reading from your text, I would say it's quiet funny. But, I believed, it's all depend on the audience reception as well as how you deliver your speech. Intonation and pausing in between sentences, before delivering the punch lines. Good luck in the contest.
