What kind of thing is the Internet? The Internet is a good thing. We can’t find so many information in the libraries, as we can in the Internet. It is a powerful base for education. In the Internet we get to know all news – for example, if the victims of some disaster need helping, they often get it thanks to publicity in the Internet.Freedom of speech is a great advantage! We can express one's opinion freely, communicate with each other, even when we are in polar spots of the planet. How many happy families was made thanks to the Internet!..The Internet is a part of us!The Internet is a bad thing. Thanks to the Internet the criminals and maniacs plan and make felonious movements; they collect data about victims and obtain an opportunity for infliction of smash blow.In the Internet we can purchase whatever one likes – even children or the human’s organs for a transplantation. Thanks to the Internet we are under permanent observation of web-cameras; somebody, perhaps, read our private correspondence, where we write about our privacy…The Internet takes our life and transforms it to another matrix!
Where do I start with my comments: the great illustrations? That was the first thing I saw and was dying to know what the girl was drinking in the green bottle. Also I thought about the guy with the spider webs and how he will be sorry when the electricity bill arrives, since his light and computer have been on so long :-)
Then there is the page on the good parts of the internet. It is so true that a library cannot compete any more with a good internet browser. If I wanted to find the original source of a story I could just cut a sentence and paste it into Google search. Then, within seconds I would have several hits with at least one of them almost certainly being what I wanted.
As for the bad: dishonest people stealing form us, potential loss of privacy, sale of undesirable and illegal things - that is something we all wish could be stopped. But the good, as in the freedom to communicate from almost anywhere, does outweigh the bad as you show. It is what you could call double edged sword, or maybe closer - a multi-sided weapon. We must use it for the good and resist the attempts of bad people, or large corporations, or even governments, if they try to turn it into something to hurt rather than help the people.
You have done a wonderful job of touching on a very complex situation with the internet Inga. You hit the highs and the lows so we all have to stop and think about your points. That is an important part of good writing.
I still really do wonder about the green bottle on page 1. I think it must be something with a lime or lemon flavor and it makes me thirsty :-)
Hi Rosenmaiden,
I cannot live without the Internet for my job. When I was in Japan, it took a week to submit a research paper to editors or publishers abroad. I needed to print the manuscript including figures and tables and ship them together via an international mail. Again it took a week to hear from them. Now we can submit a paper online in a second.
15 years ago, I had to go to the library to get reference articles. If the library didn’t have one, I needed to fill out a form and wait for several days to get it. Now I can do everything online at my desk, again in a second.
So, things are now more convenient. BUT, wait a minute. Did my life get easier?? In old days, I would enjoy science, despite the inconvenience mentioned above. Now, I am handling more stuff much faster. As a result, I am busier than before. As far as our activities (science, industry, business, education, whatever) are based on competition, we can suffer from the convenience of Internet. How ironic!
By the way, this blog is Rosenmaiden's, not Rosemie!
I've appreciated the Internet at its true value! It entertains and teach, helps and advises. People using the Web should understand that the responsibility of misusing of the WWW lies with us.
I would say:"Every right implies a responsibility"

we can get up more inforamtion in the internet , may be some of people use net for chatting or communicat with friends or family but when we talk about work frenkly the Interent help me in my work , l am working in human development field and l have to upadating all the time my skills and take more experience in new courses in this field so the ineterent give me any information when l start my reseraches or studies in market
Internet really helps me a lot in connecting with my relatives who are living in any other provinces here in our country and abroad. It helps me communicate with my friends and classmates. It also serves as a home library for my kids. With regard to the disavantages of using internet, we can avoid it by safeguarding our privacy and not giving our personal informations to those we meet online. Some people befriended us online just to take advantage. They will only deceive us when we begin to trust them. So, beware

Absolutely agree with you. I, personally, know a man who bought a computer (with an internet) in former times when it wasn't widely spread. He was engaged in a kind of enterprise and paid significant money for it in order to gain new customers. His neighbours would tell him that he's crazy, he could buy a Mercedes instead of a computer. :)..Nowadays, that guy also have a villa and a brand new car. :)
For me internet is also useful as I save my time and efforts.
