What is poetry?

When you are in a solitude mode, or in intensely impassioned,   a verse could beam in your mind a different world and sense of pleasure. I’m talking about poetry. Why you read poetry? And how is poetry made of?

What is poetry?

No one knows what poetry is. Inversely, poetry has as many definitions as there are poets and readers. Is poetry like paintings where poet uses words instead of paint? One thing is for sure that poets are tightfisted on spending words unlike prose writers. Poetic form is economy of language. Did you ever notice that the words are using a poet, we ourselves are also taking the same words for our regular usage!  Arrangements are not the same. Samuel Taylor Coleridge defined poetry as “the best words in the best order.”  Wordsworth defined poetry as, “the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings,”

“Poetry is the revelation of a feeling that the poet believes to be interior and personal which the reader recognizes as his”. -Salvatore Quasimodo

“Poetry is man’s rebellion against being what he.” –James Branch Cabell

“Poetry is what gets lost in translation.” –Robert Frost

“Poetry is the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds.” –Percy Bysshe Shelley

I am yet to define my own definition of poetry. Perhaps I have my own definition, as a matter of fact, defining it is like grasping at wind- once I catch it, it’s no longer wind.
