Some people say, “There is no such a word as equality, & this idea is ruining the relationships between the two sexes, male & female.” Other people say, “Equality is our right. In order to get social justice, we must get everything a man can get.” But you know what! Open your eyes and try to see what you think is right from a different perspective for once. What equality means? In this article, I am not looking for answers; I am looking only for asking more questions. Why a person needs equality? Why women fight for it? What’s wrong with getting equality?
To me, equality is not about sameness, it’s about differences. To be equal does not mean to turn myself into a man. I am happy & content for who I am, a young woman, it means to enjoy opportunities as men do. To get choices to choose what sort of life I want to live. “You can be whatever you want to be,” little girls in the west hear this all the time from their parents, friends, to their teachers, almost everywhere they go. They are encouraged to believe that they can be just as smart athletic, & successful as boys. But in developing countries such as Jordan, the message is just the opposite. From the day they are born, they are constantly reminded of the things they are not allowed to do for they are going through something men have never been through before, The Glass Ceiling.
Furthermore, just to be fair, discussing equality from different angle would not do any harm. Who, on earth, says, “Men are allowed to date simply because they are men, while women are not allowed to date because they are women.”?? Balls shit. I am not encouraging women to go out and start dating because if they wanted to, no one could stop them. It’s the other way around; if women are not allowed to date, men are too. Why giving the right for men to do what it’s considered to be forbidden in Islam for both of us, male & female, & making it looks like a sin ONLY for women???? Is that fair?? Is that equality? I am a Muslim; I know that God will judge people equally. My sex will never make a difference. Yet, I believe that we are different physically & psychologically; we will never be the same. However, I know that opportunities are for us all, & we all have a choice whether you are a female or a male, but this choice will never be mine without equality. Just to bear in mind, equality has nothing to do with what you wear or with the way you look; but with the way you think & act. And remember, traditions & norms have a hand in this; they make our society looks like …….
Therefore, we need to unlearn old things not to learn new things. Just because it is the way it is, does not mean it should be. Believe ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
