Welcoming Newbies

As I was making an over all analyse by myself about newbies’ feeling, needing as joining in any club, I thought mine at joining. May be it helps for those who want to be seeking a cause to join.

My first aim was improving my english. I was not afraid of jugment by any other who are better. Then I realized that is not a place for just only using my english, it is also a kind of social club.

“You make good friendship and have communication with them continuously, passing cultures to each other”, so E / Club takes place at your central of aim for learning english and gives a good reason to learn english. You are concluded as discovering “cause of communucation “ = “ cause of learning”. I had already known what was the point but I’ve exactly had ""better undestanding" the tricks as living among the real communication.

Secondly, everybody is learner and also teacher here in a way. Newbies must have been perceived themself as equality to the people who have the same goal. This energy is unavoidable to be part of any community.

Of course we should orient newbies how to get benefit from or using MyEC . Besides, we should give them a soul at the same time.

My thoughts are generally:

1-We (members) can ask them what’s your need ? What’s your expactations? And suggesting how ideas of learning is shaped, developed and maintained in this club.

2-Telling them “purpose of my eclub” also breaking down the barriers of learning.

3-In case of having no time to browse, we send a “My EC’s map” what is offering from the sections. This makes use of the best of the Myec. How is designed EC etc.,

4-Making a Poll corner may be good idea.

5-Supporting to built their learning motivation as asking their imagination.

6-Explaining what’s Myec priorities.

7- My final word is that; asking question and making practice constantly.

I will appreciate if you bring your experience to the table.

Sincerely,

Selma,

  • Very good suggestions here Selma..
I was also thinking on the same line to write a blog concerning New comers
Because after joining they do not have the idea where to start, and what are the major areas they want to improve.
I think there should be an evaluation or testing option where people can evaluate their level of english.

  •

Thank you to spare some time to read and leave your mark.

I am really pleased to show your real reflex, I totally agree with that idea sounds better.

    I made some changes.

  • Reading your thoughts brought me an opportunity to think up a different point of view:

The most common reference point is the linear time span that we tend to use for reference and view ourselves who was here before the new arrival as the people “in the KNOW” while we give the title “newbies” to those who just signed up. Would you agree that the word “ newbie” may have some connotative meaning (implied meaning) of rank or hierarchy of some sort?

Of course it has and furthermore the newcomer feels somewhat “inferior” in the moment since he/she does not know much about the group. OK, if we are on the same page then here is a different slant on this view: How about writing a welcome message that asking the person’s expertise? Along the line of “What can you teach us?” “What do you bring to the table?” This could serve as confidence builder, a direct and straight way to the person’s heart by expressing our sincere interest and helping to combine expertise with intent do develop a PURPOSEFUL learning experience.

Well, just a thought, thank to your write up ;-)
