Watcher!

I wrote this in Honey's 'activities' "Let's discuss: CREATIVE WRITING 10: THE WORLD GOES MAD" sometime back in January when I was in USA. That was extempore. I am posting it here for the reading interest of my EC friends:

WATCHER

It was Sunday, I woke up late, as usual I called my dog, "Watcher, hey boy come on up!" He came up running to my bed, "Hi, MI, good morning at last you woke up!"

I was shocked, and thought that I might be still in sleep and dreaming.

"Don't look at me like that, this is not a new thing that animal can talk!"

"But it is in the movie like Dr. Do Little, not in reality!" I stammered still staring at him.

"No, it is not any movie I can talk. How are you anyway?"

“I am, I don’t know my head is spinning. You tell how you are?”

“Fit as fiddle. By the way le’me know what say ‘fit as fiddle?’

“it’s said because you feel fine and healthy that’s why you use this phrase” I tried to explained.

“But why does this phrase means healthy?”

‘Its sort of metaphor.’

“what is metaphor?” He was looking rather inquisitive, or just pulling my leg.

“It’s a figure of speech, in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable.”

“I have seen people using ‘sound as dollar’ for the same meaning.”

‘‘Yes it was come into use when Dollar was very strong and stable.”

“Why is it still used when Dollar is not that sound and stable?”

“I don’t know, and why are you intriguing me asking such odd questions, you are just a dog.” I tried to move him away.

“No, no, tell me why say ‘healthy as horse? Horse never sick?”

“It’s again used as horse seems strong!”

“But don’t horses fall sick?”

‘Yes they do!”

“Then why use this term.”

“Hey Watcher, I don’t’ know. I’m not a scholar.”

“Human are a strange people. They speak, but they don’t know why they are using some terms.”

Saying this Watcher jumped on me and started licking my cheeks.

“Hey watch out Watcher”

I suddenly found my dog upon me when I was falling from my bed.

“Oh, thank God it was a dream, otherwise where I bring the brain from to satisfy this inquisitive dog.”

The idea and the name of the dog was taken from a novel by Dean Coonze.

  • Thanks Anah for your comment. It's really an encouragement for me.

  • Hahah!

Loved the blog. It really made me question, why we use some terms when we don't know the accurate meaning of the terms? Lol, I must say if animals started to talk, we will become speechless.
